In his off hours Extra teacher Roy Oliver pursues color photography as a hobby. For eight years he has specialized in flowers and developed true four color work in his dark room. Oliver, a high school chemistry teacher, also coaches the girls basketball team.
Merrill L. Heyes a local service station proprietor and Kath ryn Schuler of Corning were married in March 1933 at Nebraska City Neb. The couple kept the union private until they began housekeeping in Atlantic recently.
Gilda Oran, 16, was taken 40 miles by detour to Deaconess hospital for an appendicitis operation though she lives 18 miles away. Snow-blocked roads forced the roundabout route. Gilda is recovering nicely.
Ames Iowa Des Moines engineering freshman William J White 17 suffered painful injuries after an unauthorized chemistry lab experiment exploded. Authorities said he ground red phosphorus with an oxidizing agent in a porcelain crucible causing cuts and burns to the face hands and scalp and the loss of a thumb.
Appleman, re elected justice of peace, faced a state audit that found $142 in fines and fees. District Judge H J Mentz ordered payment while Cass county supervisors blocked bond approval, prompting a civil action to seek bond approval and the right to practice.
The sodium vapor lamps will illuminate a half mile of Highway 6 from Stuart east and be formally turned on after dedicatory ceremonies Friday evening. This lighting system on this segment of the Iowa primary road is the first installed in the middle west, with more lighted highways in the east.

Royal Waggoner died yesterday morning at his Gary Indiana home after a brief illness of double pneumonia. Funeral services will be held in Illinois City with his body to be taken to Muscatine. He was 31, survived by his wife Marie and two young children Betty Marie and Jamee Merle, his parents, three brothers and two sisters. He served in Troop F 113th Cavalry and worked at Carnegie tin mills as crane operator and electrician. He was born April 12 1908 and attended local schools.
Rev. W. R. Foster of Keota spoke at the Christian church last night detailing the Ohio valley floods. He said rainfall reached 2 1/2 inches per hour during 21 days of record rain, raising waters 12 feet above prior highs. Foster traveled 1400 miles for 360 miles of travel and found towns under military guard with little food. He estimated at least 50,000 needed to repair church properties and equipment, with special relief offerings planned next Sunday. About 85 people shared a Washington dinner prepared by the Ladies Aid before the report.

Fairfield Feb 25 A car carrying a father en route to a hospital struck a woman on the Fairfield square. Mrs Marion Champ suffered critical injuries and may lose a leg, doctors said. The incident occurred as the father tried to reach his wife who was giving birth to their son.
