A navy cadet from Lebanon Kentucky and a flight instructor survived a training aircraft crash near Iowa City during a forced landing five and a half miles southeast of town. The cadet Paul Everett Clark suffered bruises cuts and a possible arm injury and is hospitalized at University Hospital. The instructor Bill Austin is in Mercy Hospital with bruises a sprained knee and cuts. Civil Aeronautics Authority investigation pending.

Hesseltine Receives Suspended Sentence for Hog Theft
Guy Hesseltine of west of town pleaded guilty to stealing two hogs in district court before Judge Frank Bechly. He was sentenced to five years in the Anamosa state reformatory, but the term was suspended on good behavior and he was paroled to Sheriff H. M. Putnam. County Attorney George F. Morrison prosecuted. Plane Without Pilot Flies for Over 2000 Miles
A four engine B Liberator cargo plane named the flying Dutch man of the skies wandered 2000 miles over the Atlantic and Gulf of Mexico with no crew aboard and crashed in a Mexican mountain on February 9. Six crew members and two passengers were aboard at abandonment off the Florida coast and the craft was last seen heading toward Norway. Six occupants were recovered, one drowned, and the eighth was unaccounted for. Second Lieutenant C. K. Knutson of Des Moines was among the recovered.
