Frank Kos vice president of the Washington State Bank was elected a two year chairman of Group 11 of the Iowa Bankers Association at a Burlington meeting held Tuesday evening and Wednesday. The group includes banking officials from six southeastern counties including Lee and Washington. Lee Holland previously led the group and later became president of the Iowa State Bankers Association. About 550 bank officials and guests attended, with Kos and his wife among Washington representatives.

President Kennedy sent Congress a broad natural resources program to protect water land forests and minerals. The plan covers air purification desalination water pollution control river basin planning and federal power pooling with emphasis on flood control and renewable energy. He urged executive orders and new legislation including a $1.25 billion water pollution bill over 10 years and tougher enforcement of pollution controls. He also called for expanding forest development and support for small timber owners and a national initiative to combat air and water contamination.

A district court jury in Washington awarded $22,600 in damages for the deaths of Mr. and Mrs. Richard W. Setterberg from an auto crash on Highway 218 north of Ainsworth. The verdict issued at 4:35 pm after deliberations begun at 10:15 am. The case of Carl W. Setterberg as administrator of Richard W. Setterberg vs. Paul J. Gerdes resulted in $18,300 for the estate, while $4,300 was awarded to Carl W. Setterberg as administrator of Gwendolyn Etta Setterberg in the same matter.

Funeral services for Mrs. Eli Spiedel 84 of Wayland are set for Friday at 2 pm at Wayland Methodist Church. The Rev George LaMore and the Rev Fred Martin will lead.
