Advance sale for the fourth annual Washington High School Jazz Festival set for March 8 features trombonist Bill Watrous and the Fort Leavenworth Third Army Jazz Band. Ticket prices are 125 cents for students and 2 dollars for adults, available from band members or by phone.
Arrangements for the annual banquet are complete for Monday March 10 at 6 30 p m in the K of C Hall. Speaker will be C C McIntyre of United Air Lines with Washington Junior High Jazz Band providing extra entertainment. Tickets cost 5 50 and are available from Chamber Board members or the Chamber office. Stockholders of the Washington Industrial Corporation meet March 5 at 7 30 p m in the kitchen auditorium of the Iowa Southern Utilities Co building to elect three directors for three years with candidates Leon Hilfman John Lee and Ralph Marshall. William Perdock is president Leon Hilfman secretary and Richard L Weeks treasurer.
State Senator Forrest Schwengels and State Representative Keith Dunton will meet Chamber of Commerce representatives Saturday morning and then be at the Chamber office from 10 30 until noon to meet voters. At 1 pm they will be at the Farm Bureau office to hear views on current or future legislation.
St James school will hold registration for kindergarten and all other new students after Masses Sunday Feb 23 in the school office and Monday Feb 24 from 8 30 to 10 30 a m in the school gym. For kindergarten children must be five by Sept 15 1975. Parents should bring baptismal or birth certificates. Tuition varies by parishioner status with no tuition for parishioners and 250 150 tiered fees for non parishioners plus book fee.

District Court Judge Ira F. Morrison sentenced Karl Zielstorf an 18 year old Washington man to 10 years in the Men's Reformatory at Anamosa for larceny in the night time. Zielstorf pleaded guilty February 7 to stealing two guns from a pickup.
The Iowa House defeated a Lipsky amendment to require lobbyists to itemize expenditures on lawmakers including meals entertainment travel and lodging with a separate list for payments over five dollars. The vote echoed debates over disclosing lawmakers' and editors' financial interests while Senate moves on studded snow tire ban and other bills continued.
U.S. District Judge Sirica imposes 20 month to five year terms for obstruction and conspiracy on Mitchell Haldeman and Ehrlichman with concurrent sentences and a 10 month to three year addition for perjury. Mardian gets 10 months to three years. All four may appeal and were released without bond.
One hundred seventeen Washington County 4 H members and their chaperones will ride chartered buses to Nauvoo Illinois on Saturday. They will tour Nauvoo State Park and historic sites including the Nauvoo Temple, St Marys Academy, and Joseph Smith homestead. Buses depart Washington at 745 am stopping in Kalona Ainsworth Corners Crawfordsville and Wayland to pick up riders.
The Labor Department reports January consumer prices up 0.6 percent the smallest gain since April with declines in beef sugar and wholesale prices offset by rises in groceries services and housing costs. Clothing, cars, utilities and hospital charges contributed to the gain while mortgage rates eased.
Common Cause charged that 26 state representatives voted against an ethics code amendment. The measure would require reporting of lobbyist expenditures over five dollars per month on behalf of legislators.
Kiwanis club members will go door to door in Washington on Sunday February 23 to collect Heart Fund contributions. The effort marks a decade of local service coordinated by Rex Lee and Dr. John Helscher with Rick Brennen assisting. 4-H groups and county towns will assist. funds support Heart Association research and care programs.
Washington Education Association leaders present a five point package to district negotiators. A $900 base pay increase for beginning teachers is the top item, with raises for experienced teachers and adjustments to fringe benefits. Other asks include higher district health insurance cost share, a complex grievance procedure, improved extra duty pay, and a rewrite of credit requirements to match state rules. Negotiations begin next Thursday with Board approval and WEA ratification.
