On February 21 1862 James Stevens son bought 160 acres southwest of Washington for 1050 dollars. The deed names the northwest quarter of section 28 township 75 range 8 west and is now held by David H Kleese, grandson of James Stevens son. Elwood Kleese and Stanley Steven, descendants, live on parts of the farm five miles west and one and a half miles south of Washington. Oliver and Eliza Prizer signed the deed before justice of the peace Anson Moore.

Despite bad weather and John Glenn making orbital history, 80 hogs were shown at the annual market hog show in Washington County. Greene of Ainsworth and Rom ey Davis of Columbus Junction won heavyweight and lightweight divisions respectively.
