Dr Maceus Daeh spoke at a Lin dn school PTA meeting arguing Americans have lost the will to believe. He urged restoration through church school and home, outlining ways to unite religions, reinforce roots, and foster understanding. An audience quiz followed with a signed book prize.
Forecast shows snow and freezing rain in the north with strong north to northwest winds 25 to 35 mph. Showers or thunderstorms in the south, glazing possible in north central and southwest. Temperatures fall, highs 25 to 45, then a cold night with flurries and blustery conditions. Wednesday remains mostly cloudy and colder with diminishing winds.

John Waggoner aged about 60 died at his home on North Second Avenue Monday night after an illness. He had been bedfast since Thanksgiving and funeral services are tentatively set for Thursday at 2 PM at Somes Funeral Home with burial in Nesworth Cemetery. Survivors include his wife Clara Belle Gabbe, three sons Franklin, Leslie, and Woodrow, two daughters Ethel Hoste and Dorothy Kurth, 22 grandchildren and one brother Joe Waggoner. His son Royal is deceased.
A Social Security representative from Burlington will be in Washington on Wednesday February 27 from 9 50 to 10 30 a m at the Iowa State Employment office on the north side of the square to help with old age survivors insurance claims and social security number applications.
Theodore Reynolds of Richmond died February 18 at Iowa City University Hospital aged 60. He formerly lived in Washington and worked at Reister's produce. He is survived by his widow daughter Mrs Melvin Stoner two grandchildren Kinross two sisters Mrs Ralph Gibson Washington Mrs Lawrence Long Ottumwa and Fr A Reynolds Sioux City. Funeral services will be held Thursday at 2 p.m. at the Marsh funeral home in Keota.

Webster City authorities search for burglars who broke into the Webster City Fruit and Grocery Co last night escaping with about 1800 dollars in cash several cartons of cigarettes and some checks store manager Harry Lazarus said the robbery occurred between closing time and midnight when he checked receipts after bowling. Three Washington residents were injured when their eastbound auto collided with a semi truck on highway 92 two miles west of the Washington Keokuk county line. Andy Severn Jeannette Miller and Gladys Gardner suffered chest hand and facial injuries. Severn faces a charge of operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated.
Prosecutors plan to call two deputy sheriffs tonight in the preliminary hearing for Berthal Shuck 47 Des Moines charged with raping a young expectant mother. A city detective and a doctor testified for the prosecution and pawn shop operator was top defense witness.
Miss Noe, 25, Des Moines, indicted by Mahaska County grand jury on murder charges. She is to be arraigned before District Judge R. G. Yoder later this week after being arrested when she got off a Des Moines bus following the discovery of her mother Christina Noe's body near Eddyville.
Will Sutton, the elusive bank bandit, was arrested in Brooklyn and questioned about the Boston Brinks heist of 1950. FBI agents linked his method to the Boston robbery while Sutton claimed he was wrongly accused, living quietly near a Brooklyn police station.
The State of Iowa vs George Nash ended with a niot guilty verdict after 45 minutes of jury deliberation. Nash was accused of larceny in the night from a corn crib on the Albert Reininger farm on December 19. Scott Jordan, former Jefferson county attorney, defended Nash.

A two month old named Kenneth James Valadez nearly choked on a ring at his parents home on the Des Moines outskirts. Police, sheriff's deputies and a fire department respirator crew responded with an ambulance to rush the infant to Blank Memorial hospital where an attendant said he was doing well.

Newcomer Mr and Mrs H R Hess and their three daughters Betty Ann Boris and Connie Sue will rent a house in Washington after Mr Hess becomes manager of the Washington Lumber and Fuel company. He comes from Harper where he worked for the same firm that owns the local yard. Hess has long ties with the firm dating back to 1929 and is a nephew of Dewey Hess. His hobbies include hunting and fishing.
