Iowa Senate moves to lower voting age to eighteen

Twleve Children Die In Fires Across Five States

United Press International reports twelve children killed in fires in Michigan Pennsylvania Iowa and South Dakota on Thursday. High winds fanned several blazes hindering rescue. Victims include Patricia Dowding and three children near Charlotte Michigan Ronald Dowding critically burned and unavailable for comment.

Factory Blast at Hawthorne Glue Plant Kills One, Injures Eleven

An explosion at Morningside-Paisley glue and starch factory in Hawthorne New Jersey killed at least one person and injured eleven others. The blast, possibly sparked by flammable dust, destroyed the plant near the Susquehanna Railroad. Police rushed victims to hospitals as crews fought the ensuing fire. A firm spokesman cited a likely trigger in the adjacent research and development lab.

Saucers Seen Over Michigan Spark Sightings

Police report two officers in Ypsilanti observed a bright orange UFO moving northeast for about ten minutes and ejecting a fire stream. Additional Thursday witnesses near downtown Ann Arbor described a two white lights with a central red beacon. Air traffic official suggested planes in Metro Airport flight path.

UFO Sighting North of Washington Reported by Three Persons

A bright dome topped object was seen rising west to east above the Keota area near Washington at about 12 30 this morning. Leland Sanders and his wife along with Marsha Smith observed a round orange ball with a dome on top for about four minutes from the Smith home on route 2, Keota. The sighting echoes a prior report by Gary and Linda Godfrey of Iowa City. The object was silent and appeared about a mile west before moving closer to within 40 rods.

Volunteers Tunnel Rats Shine In Vietnam Tragedy

In Truong Lam Vietnam a Tennessee volunteer tunnel rat crawled into a well to root out hidden Communists. He was shot twice in the belly at 30 feet but refused to scream as his comrades hauled him out. Lt Col Robert Stevenson declared the Viet Cong dead by fate. He later died, family informed first.

Tecumseh Ironclad Found Near Mobile Bay Sink Site

Engineering experts report locating the Union ironclad Tecumseh, sunk in the 1864 Mobile Bay battle, buried about 38 feet deep a half mile off Ft. Morgan. The 225 foot vessel, 2100 ton displacement, was 98 percent silted and may be raised for a Smithsonian display.
