Iowa State College will host the annual Dairy Industry Week short course with creamery operators markets plants and ice cream plants from across the state. Registration is expected to exceed one hundred persons and the event aims to boost dairy operations throughout Iowa.
Newton Manufacturing Co. factory superintendent F A Dick Dunn lost his camera gear twice while traveling. A photo set stolen from his car in Mexico last winter and another set stolen from his hotel room in New Orleans as he headed to Florida.
Theodor Broch, former mayor of Narvik, Norway, seized by German troops last spring, will speak at Wartburg College on Tuesday March 11 to recount the Nazi occupation and its impact.
Gerald Rocquet, 30, of Ottumwa, was in serious condition with both legs broken after being struck by an auto while helping push a stalled car. The car hit the stalled vehicle. driver Joe Davidson of Sigourney had minor cuts. Passengers Peter J. Mitchell and Harold Prannenbecker, both of Sigourney, sustained various injuries.
Mrs Harry Ferguson aged 63 was reported in poor condition at Mercy hospital after being overcome by monoxide gas at home. Her husband, 63, and Gertrude Genesco, 58, were in fair condition. Police said the gas originated from a pressure cooker, not the gas furnace line.
Waterloo reports Russell Pullen 59 a noted wool grower was fatally gored by a bull in his pasture. His body lay near the fence which was badly damaged and he died from internal injuries after the animal attack while he tended chores.
In Fort Madison a mother and her 20 year old daughter have begun a hatchet campaign against tavern gambling equipment. They have already damaged gear at two taverns while police take no action. County Attorney Robert N. Johnson says raids are legal if they destroy only illegal equipment and do not threaten people.
Claude Nibauer 26 of Davis Corners Howard County farm er died in a hospital after a highway accident. Officers believe he fell from his pickup while turning or backing up. The truck lay beside the road at right angles and his body was in the pavement center. He suffered crushed groin and broken legs but was uninjured above the waist.
Census Bureau reports bluing production worth 1.2 million dollars yearly across 13 establishments. The whitening chemical supports domestic wash days and reflects industry scale in the current manufacturing map.
Five persons were hospitalized after a two car collision four miles east of Washington. A. W. Motley of Washington drove one car while Elmer C. Phillips of Truro and Mrs. Fred Beeler of Peru joined two Murray residents. All sustained cuts and dazed appear to be non life threatening with X rays planned. Motley was traveling east from Iowa City and the other car from the south toward West Liberty.
The Harwood shoe store on the south side of the square was sold to Warner and Bristow of Fairfield. They will operate two stores and reopen the Harwood location with new stock around the first of March. Will Harwood will assist during the sale of current stock.
Funeral services for Mrs Hugh J Davis take place at her home tomorrow afternoon at 1:00 and 1:45 at Salem Presbyterian Church east of Crawfordsville. Rev D C Davies will officiate with burial in Cambrian cemetery. She died Saturday afternoon after long illness. She was 80, maiden name Mary Rees, survived by sons Newton Roland Rees and daughter Elizabeth.
A group of Production Credit association borrowers met in the Washington office to review loaning policies and plan for the coming season. An advisory committee for Washington County was chosen including O. W. Schmitter Rachio George Flynn Washington Homer Vincent Wellman R. L. Duncan Cotter and Charles F. Lorack of Riverside Iowa. Walter Moehn president and Mr Steffensmeier of Mount Pleasant also attended.
Saturday licenses issued to Ray Omer Wagner of Washington and Margaret Ellen Lemley of Ainsworth, and to Edward Ebbesen and Edna French, both of Peoria, Illinois, at the courthouse.

The supreme court ruled Iowa can collect its two percent use tax on mail orders from Sears Roebuck and Montgomery Ward. The decision could affect seventeen states with similar statutes and involves about $500000 yearly revenue for Iowa. The seller must collect the tax as the state’s agent for goods sent into Iowa.

A car stolen from a Davenport used car lot was found on East Washington Street near the New England apartments. Residents notified Chief George Baker, and the Davenport firm confirmed the vehicle belonged to them and arranged return, with a driver expected to pick it up today.
The Court reversed a state supreme court decision that held the tax inapplicable to two mail order firms, clarifying the reach of the tax beyond a single jurisdiction.
The Supreme Court denied the petition of Norman Baker R A Bellows and J J Statler for review of their conviction on charges of using the mails to defraud in a cancer cure scheme. Baker ran hospitals at Muscatine Iowa and Eureka Springs Arkansas with alleged medical schemes.
Funeral services for Mrs. Louise M. Richards Smith are scheduled Tuesday at 2 p.m. at L. A. Jones Funeral Home with Rev. KE. J. Shook of Wayland officiating. Burial will follow in Crawfordsville Cemetery. She died Saturday in a Waterloo convalescent home at age 68. Born in Woodhull Illinois, she married A. KR. Smith on February 15, 1911, and the couple lived on a farm near Washington before moving to Waterloo last September. She leaves her husband and several siblings, including Clarebece Richards, Harry Richards, Stanley Richards, W. Al. Richards, Mrs. Lee Arthaud, and Mrs. Edna Franklin.

Des Moines February 17 A demand that George A. Brown resign as executive secretary of the Iowa high school athletic association was proposed by the board. The move follows charges that Brown manipulated the association for personal gain in a northeastern Iowa district. The board offered Brown $5 in settlement, with two and a half years remaining on his contract, while Brown earns four thousand dollars annually. He could not be reached for comment. The April 1 resignation date was set to allow Brown to direct the state high school tournament.
The Supreme Court today upheld Earl Browder's conviction for using a fraudulently obtained passport. He remains sentenced to four years in prison and a two thousand dollar fine.
