A Clinton group including a former Pointer Brewing Co. worker plans to bid $30,000 or more for the beer plant in Davenport federal court. The latest court auction reached $27,500. A Clinton movement aims to keep the brewery as a local industry, noting MH employed 75 workers. The plant’s appraisal sits at $450,000.
City water samples from Ottumwa were tested by the Iowa State Board of Health at lows ty labs. City Chemist W D Elliott reported tests show the water is virtually sterile and free of harmful chemicals, despite recent taste and odor issues caused by a low river stage.
Carlton K. Bergman 36 Newton sales manager for One Minute Manufacturing Co. at Kellogg is fatally injured in an auto collision. He rode with three other Newton men in a car driven by William Richards 22. An eastbound semi-trailer owned by Truck Owners Freight Co Akron Ohio swerved on slippery pavement and struck the rear of Richards car.

Maynard Bower aged 20 was ordered held to the grand jury by Justice J. K. Bovee on a night time larceny from a building charge. He is accused of taking batteries from the Sorrell auto parts establishment and was arrested by Night Officer Walt Kiesey.
Mr Wendell Shaffer and Mrs Shaffer entertained guests at their West Main Street apartment last evening. The event featured three pinochle tables and refreshments served after the game.

John Walsh of Riverside was named chairman of the Democratic Central Committee to fill the unexpired term of the late William Griffin. The committee met at the GR hall with strong attendance and will reappoint him at the June county convention. Walsh will convene a April meeting to plan for the county gathering.

Hann and Rev. Conant officiating. He was born August 4 1912 in Johnson County and married Dorothy DeFrees in 1938. He worked in insurance and was survived by his wife and father John Kinsinger plus sister Evelyn Werye.

Lee German, 39, of Williamsville TIL pleaded guilty before Justice J E Bovee to intoxication this morning and received a fifteen day county jail sentence. He arrived by bus last night and could not check into a local hotel due to his condition. He tried to cash a bad check, was apprehended by Jack Creech, and handed to city authorities. German admitted drinking bay rum, alcohol, whiskey and beer and said he had been jailed frequently.
Thieves used an acetylene torch to open the safe at the Austinville Savings Bank in Butler county Iowa and escaped with an undetermined sum. They also stole several ten gallon cream cans and filled them with water to keep the metal cool during the heist. Austinville lies 55 miles west of Cedar Falls.
