A Rockford laborer at a paint plant was identified as Dr. Carl Vernon Holmberg, a Syracuse University forestry researcher who vanished in 1955. He had adopted the alias Verne Hansen, lived as a laborer for years, and learned his true identity after FBI fingerprint checks. His wife Dorothy Ripley had divorced him in 1958. his ex-wife’s new husband said she was not surprised by the finding.
