Farm House Damaged by Fire Near Mount Vernon
A farm house owned by Lauren Towne, two miles north of Mount Vernon, suffered heavy damage Wednesday night after a kitchen fire started from a short circuit in an electric skillet. The two-story wood frame home had flames that reached the second floor and attic. Towne was at home but unharmed as volunteers battled the blaze for about three hours.
