Don Radda, Washington county corn specialist, won the 10 acre yield contest with 209.62 bushels per acre. Other top county yields include Joe Knotek 144.41, Edward R. Rees 187.92, Maurice Crawford 134, Enfeld and Griffith 123.76, Jesse Radda 116.24, Yoder and Gingerich 113.28, Leslie Bell 104.71. The county results were announced by Marion S. McAvoy, VFW contest chair, with Crawford disqualified for state entry but counted fourth in the county. state results to be announced at Ames. The Iowa Corn and Small Grain Growers Association sponsors the state contest, and a banquet for high-yield farmers is planned by the VFW.

At the Iowa Christian rural fellowship meeting held at Iowa State College 11 churches across 57 counties received certificates of merit. Dean Floyd Andre of the college agriculture division presented the awards, and the Methodist church at Kalona was among recipients.

Night Blaze Destroys Emporia Masonic Lodge Building
A three story brick structure housing the Masonic lodge and several small businesses in Emporia Kansas suffered about 500000 dollars in damages in a blaze of unknown origin. Fire Chief C C Johnson said the fire started in the boiler room and spread via air ducts to the upper floors. The alarm rang at 9 p m and the fire was under control near midnight with no injuries reported.
