Burlington Youth Dies in Two-Car Crash North of Burlington
A Burlington 16 year old, Douglas Schroder, was killed when his car veered off U.S. 61 two miles north of Burlington after reportedly falling asleep. Passenger Floyd Dean Jr. and driver Steven Tisor of Morning Sun were injured. A second fatality, Harry Hopwood, 38, of LeClaire, died when his car collided with a school bus four miles north of Davenport on U.S. 16 after a wrestling meet. The Midland High School bus carried 22 students and staff. several were treated for injuries. Sheriff deputies cited a stop sign violation as a witness observed the crash path.
