The Girls' Pep Committee voted to purchase a new electric scoreboard for Fairfield High School's gymnasium. Principal J F T Sour helped design the instrument after the committee held its meeting and approved the contribution.
The Charles Fray family near Fairfield has delivered 70 pounds of hickory nut meats to a local bakery and contracts to supply 359 pounds more soon. The family supplies a large one family hickory nut stock and expects rapid fulfillment.
Carl Mynning faces court action after he shut off heat to tenant Wilbert Kluever and his family citing arrears since February. Kluever reported the incident after a warrant was issued. police say Mynning claimed the action was justified by nonpayment.
An eighth grade girl in Wanello county braved snow and ice to attend the high school entrance exams at the WY. M. C. A. with the county superintendent Celia Bell overseeing. She rode a Hedrick school bus and arrived on time for the test despite icy conditions. About 165 of the 120 expected students took the examinations, according to Mika Hell.
Rudolph Simen Ig of Riverside fell forty feet from a haymow while holding a flashlight in his mouth. He suffered a broken jaw and six front teeth. He has long records of punctuality, and is treated at his parents’ home. Connell Blut, longtime employee of the Omaha and Connell Buff Railway Co, retired after nearly 45 years of service with a record of never being late.
Professor J Lapp and his two children Roger and Riev oe built an igloo at the Lapp home in Iowa City using Eskimo snow-cutting angles learned from Arctic explorer Vihhel mar Stefanson. The structure uses 76 blocks spiraled to the top, forming a two-thick wall house with space for a six foot man.
Reports from Addis Ababa say higher Ethiopian death tolls from Italian bombing of Dessye than earlier noted. Evacuation of Dessye spared Emperor Haile Selassie and the imperial guard, while Rome reports Italian casualties in the Tambian sector reaching 440 dead and missing, totaling 884 in the war.
U S department of agriculture predicts benefits from cold and heavy snowfall for farmers. Winter wheat seed risk in Kansas and nearby states is noted, but overall corn and grain crops should rebound. Brighton February report says the Hoskins Ambulance with patient Miss Josephine Clecleski was wedged in a snowdrift near Paul Peek home after failing to reach Fairfield hospital. Crews from Jefferson county WPA and volunteers battled six hours to free it as funeral services for Join Owen were postponed.
