William Sauter, 52, pleaded guilty to a burglary charge in Cincinnati and told the judge he hopes for a long parole period. He said he stays out of trouble only while on parole and urged the parole board to keep him under supervision as long as possible.
Riverside maker Earl Grout, 40, runs a complete saw and scissors sharpening shop from his basement after a 1950 accident left him wheelchair bound. He demonstrates re-toothing and filing eight operations to restore saw teeth, can convert crosscut to rip saw, and uses a full set of equipment to restore damaged blades.
Phillip Henry Parks died at his Kinross home after four years there. Funeral services are set for 9:35 a.m. Wednesday at Powell funeral home with burial in Gordon Nebraska. Born October 16, 1870 in Indiana, he married October 9, 1895 in Rushville Nebraska. Survivors include his wife two sons Cecil and William three daughters eleven grandchildren and eight great grandchildren.
Kenosha Wisconsin police seek three men who robbed inventor Oscar Zerk’s estate Monday night stealing a rare jade and silver collection valued at slau de8. The loot includes statues jade pieces and 840 English Sheffield silver intended for donation to the University of Wisconsin or the State Historical Society. Zerk a 54 year old inventor lived alone on the Dun Movin estate west of Kenosha.
4 H youth assistant Jim Eliott opened the annual club activity with a soil conservation phase of the agronomy study at Prairie Flower school. District commissioners will donate up to 50 dollars to clubs based on participation and quality of work. Follow up activities include soil sampling demonstrations and livestock program observations.
Nomination papers circulate for Lee A. Helland and Dr. M. J. Cruzee for Washington independent district school board seats, with Frank Kos seeking treasurer. All seek three year terms. Election set for March 6 with a 2 1/2 mill levy for three years to fund construction or equipment. Other incumbents include John Winga Marion George John Lee. Phil Weldin is secretary.
The County GOP central committee met in the courthouse to start plans for a Washington county rally. A speaker is to be secured and a follow up meeting will draft details. Chairman William Smart urged volunteers to work on get out the vote for November and noted Republican congressmen' importance to Eisenhower's administration.

East Zone unrest swelled as anti Communist leaflets calling for free elections and German unity circulated despite crackdowns. Workers protested, factory slowdowns rose, and police reinforced major cities including Dresden Chemnitz Jena and Magdeburg while terminals and crossings were tightened.
Polk County Attorney Clyde E. Herring plans to ask the grand jury to indict six sneak liquor operators for bootlegging or maintaining a liquor nuisance after two escaped convicts visited Des Moines on January 31. Convicts Donald Baldwin and William Rimmer, plus taxi driver C D Edwards, face related charges as hearings set for Thursday.
Funeral services for Mrs. Annie Mabel Miller are set for Wednesday February 10 at 10 am in the Upper Creek church with burial in the local cemetery. Born August 39, 1880 in Johnson county she was the daughter of John and Catherine Yoder Miller. She married David Miller Jr in 1994. he died five years ago. Survivors include two daughters Orie Swartzendruber of Parnell and Emily at home two sisters Mrs David Miller of Wellman and Mrs Max Swartzendru ber of Limon Colorado one son Ivan of Wellman and two brothers EK A Miller of Colorado Springs and Urie Miller of Lone Tree.
White House spokesman says Republicans are giving facts in attacks that anger Democrats who warn they might reduce support for the administration. James Hagerty downplays protests while Democrats vow to strike back at every chance amid charges of subversion and remarks by Sherman Adams.
Secretary of Agriculture Ezra Taft Benson warned in a speech at Oklahoma A and M College that critics cannot kill the new farm program. He argued rigid supports threaten agriculture as prices and incomes fail and surpluses grow while consumers resent the policy.
Soviet Foreign Minister Vyacheslav Molotov blasted the United States in a two hour speech and announced plans to introduce a European security pact at the Big Four talks. Mrs. Donald Dean Leslie of Washington reports her husband Donald Dean Leslie has suffered a brain hemorrhage while in the Korean service. He has been taken to a Tokyo hospital where he is in serious condition.
Mrs. Billie Davis, noted Sunday school speaker and teaching methods lecturer, will speak in Washington on February 22 at a Washington Teachers association meeting. She will meet with county teachers at 3 30 p m in the high school auditorium and then attend the American Association of School Administrators convention in Atlantic City.
Bob Speed and Ray Minick mark their sixth anniversary as Washington furniture dealers this week. They opened Kiple & DePrenger Furniture on February 15, 1941 at 109 East Washington Street. The store employs Fred Bartow Vern Shepherd Clark Talbot and Merle Steele among others.
