United Nations airmen in Korea claim victory over Communist MIG_15 aircraft amid a day of intermittent air fighting. The UN reports one probable destroy and three damage claims as sabrejets engage in two dogfights high over northwest Korea.
Naturalist Tom McHugh presents Wonders of the Wilderness in an adventure film at Washington high school Thursday. The color documentary follows four seasons in Wyoming and Yellowstone with avalanches fires and wildlife adventures. Tickets are honored at the door as Rotary Y's Men Kiwanis and YMCA sponsor the four program series.
The South Korean government denounced U N truce negotiators for concessions at Panmunjom, saying the Reds are using 3000 U S war prisoners as hostages. Seoul rejected a high level peace conference within 90 days limited to non Korean forces withdrawal and Korean questions.
Crowds of workers and villagers gathered at Sandringham on the royal estate as King George VI lay in state in a simple oak coffin in St Mary Magdalene church. The procession from Sandringham House, a torchlight salute, and guards marked the solemn farewell before the coffin was moved to London for Westminster Hall.
CHICAGO IP The state food inspector is dismissed amid bribery charges in a widening horsemeat scandal. State agriculture director Ro nne fired John Malone after an all night grilling. Rock Island county State’s Attorney Bernard Moran said Malone confessed taking a $70 bribe from Lindskog of Moline to alter a meat sample. The Rock Island grand jury will hear charges against Malone, Lindskog, and Karras of East Moline.
Horace D B Hesseltine 61 died Friday at his farm home northwest of Winfield after years of ill health. Funeral 1:30 Feb 10 at Jones funeral home with Rev L C Bast. burial in Kibler cemetery. Survived by wife Mary and two sons Joseph Ely and Lester Lewis Hesseltine, sister Mrs John Wiles, brother Ed Hesseltine, two grandsons.
The Air Force trims peak monthly aircraft output from 1,250 to 950 units to fit President Truman's defense budget. Officials say the 1,250 monthly peak was never reached and the 142 modern wings goal will be delayed past 1955, delaying buildup.
A marriage license was issued here today to Gerald Lloyd Stout. The notice records no further details.
A giant crude oil barge exploded on the Warrior River near Tuscaloosa Alabama killing at least three workers and injuring one. The barge burned into the early morning hours with heavy black smoke obscuring survivors. Authorities reported the fire diminished later but could not confirm additional casualties.
American Legion Auxiliary members in Iowa City will assist at the new Veterans Affairs hospital. Training and orientation will be announced by Mrs. Norman Schoonover, with volunteer work starting after the hospital opens and staff readiness. A few unit members will act as guides at the March 16 opening. overall duties begin once admissions occur.

Sioutn City report says U S District Attorney TD E Diamond will convene a federal grand jury in Waterloo on March 15 to probe organized crime in northern Logs. The panel of 35 will study narcotics violations and other federal offenses over several weeks as part of a nationwide directive from Attorney General J Howard McGrath.

Eisenhower scored a sweeping victory in Connecticut's first 1952 primary, besting Senator Robert Taft 2109 to 1183 among 13 000 Republican registrants. State GOP chairman Clarence Baldwin hailed the win as a sign Republicans favor Eisenhower for president.
