Iowa couple charged with first degree murder in farm death
Joseph L. Barry and his wife Loretta of Oxford face first degree murder charges over the death of Eddie B. Schmidt a 51 year old farm laborer found mutilated on the Barry farm. The coroner initially said Schmidt died of a heart attack and suggested animal mutilation. Schmidt had heart disease and had been visiting the Barros where he had worked before.

Ainsworth Man Stephen D. Ross Dies at 81
Stephen D. Ross, 81, died Saturday night in a hospital in Iowa City after a period of illness. Funeral services will be Tuesday at 2 PM in the Methodist church with burial in Ainsworth cemetery. Ross, born March 9, 1860 in Crawfordsville Ind, lived in Ainsworth 50 years and served as street commissioner and city marshal. He was a Mason for about 50 years. Surviving are three daughters, two sons, four sisters, 12 grandchildren and nine great grandchildren.
