Larry J. Carlin, 24, of Washington, is jailed on robbery with aggravation charges after an armed robbery at Sir Jenny's gas station on West Madison Street. Clerk Robin Smith fled to help as Carlin fled with cash. he was arrested within hours at his North Avenue D home. Bond set at 25000. Gary Glandon, manager, was not on duty.

Marian Owens and Sons of Columbus Junction own the top and seventh Chester White gilts among swine entered for a four breed production tested sale to be held February 15 at the Iowa Swine Testing Station in Ames. The sale groups Poland China Berkshire Landrace and Chester White breeders with four breed producers. Owens and Sons top gilt posted a daily gain of 2.01 pounds, .94 inches back fat and a 6.2 square inch loin eye.

Washington to Invite Bids for Municipal Garbage Service
City Council voted Monday to end the current contract with Dale Fritz and open bidding for a new one-year garbage collection pact starting May 1. Fritz has held the contract since 1975, with about 75,000 dollars yearly from residents’ fees, while the city collects a portion for billing costs. Max L. DES MOINES Iowa lawmakers pressed the Iowa Commission on the Aging to fix mismanagement or risk losing legislative backing. Senator David Readinger questioned use of funds while executive director Glen Bowles vowed to restore oversight and said no expansion is planned until the agency’s own house is in order. Bowles admitted ongoing administration problems in area aging agencies and Senator Louis Culver criticized weak oversight. Readinger hesitated to approve a budget increase until administration and area agencies are cleaned up.

New Wastewater Plant Favored To Meet Pollution Rules

United Presbyterian Home plans four story apartment building
The United Presbyterian Home in Washington announced plans for a four story 23 apartment complex with an attached garage to face 11th Street. Units range from 844 to 904 square feet with one or two bedrooms and own heating and cooling. Endowment payments and monthly fees fund construction and upkeep, with about $100 monthly covering utilities and maintenance. If interest proves strong, work could start this summer for completion in 1978, and residents would receive emergency care at the Brownlee Health Center.
