Snowshrouded caterpillar seen near East Van Buren home
A caterpillar wandered from its winter hiding place in bright sun near a resident on East Van Buren this morning. The solar glow apparently startled the insect, causing it to venture out earlier than expected. Friends and relatives fear for at least 15 of more than two dozen Native Lowans, including a Marshalltown couple and their four children in Guatemala when an earthquake struck Wednesday. They had not heard from the group, and Nancy Snyder, 28, formerly of Sioux City, living in Iowa City, also had not been heard from Friday.

Iowa House Appropriations Pass Over $14 Million Bill
DES MOINES UPI The Iowa House Friday approved appropriations totaling over 14 million dollars with near 1 million for miscellaneous state agencies sent to Gov. Ray. The bill cleared the Senate 47 to 0 and the House 82 to 14. It provides about 100000 for the Employment of the Handicapped Committee, 100000 for the Housing Finance Authority and Board of Medical Examiners, and 250000 for the Nurse Examiners Board.

Cedar Falls Iowa UPI Black Hawk County District Judge Carroll Engelkes tentatively set April 19 as the trial date for Jerry Mark charged with four counts of murder in the Nov 1 Cedar Falls killings of his brother, sister-in-law, and their two children.
