Fairfield girl dies in shooting accident
Nine year old Cathrine Cook, daughter of Mr and Mrs James Cook, was accidentally shot and killed Sunday by her nine year old cousin Terry Cook. The gun fell from a truck bed case as the boy moved it during a family move near Cathrine. She died en route to University Hospitals Iowa City after being taken to Jefferson County Hospital. Authorities said no shells were in the magazine and only one shell in the barrels. Neil claimed he did not know the gun was loaded.

Robbers steal $10,000 from Kesley bank
In Kesley Iowa thieves battered a 16 inch wall to reach the safe at Iowa State Bank and used an explosive to exit with about ten thousand dollars. Assistant manager Fred Mayfield found the break in this morning as the FBI opened the investigation. Burglar tools were left behind and no safety deposit boxes were touched. The same bank was robbed previously two years ago with no loss.

Missing checks recovered after Keota fertilizer burglary
About $1,000 worth of checks believed stolen in a robbery at Sehrock's Fertilizer in Keota Friday were recovered the same day. The checks were found behind a radiator in the building. An initial estimate placed the missing amount at $560. Slim's D-X Services was also involved in the burglary series.

A thick fog blanketed Iowa causing widespread accidents on major roads. About 28 cars piled up on U S 30 near Ames after a wheel loss sparked a string of crashes. 72 miles north on U S 69 another chain reaction involved six cars and a truck with one hospitalization.
