Alex R Miller 62 died Sunday February 6 1927 at 429 South Marion Avenue after a long illness. He rose from Mennonite roots to become a prominent Washington county figure a former state Demcratic candidate postmaster and longtime Democrat publisher. Funeral services to be held Tuesday at the Methodist Church.
Millions bowed in mourning as Emperor Yoshito's body moved to the imperial gardens for the final funeral rites. An estimated 1.5 million lined the route in Tokyo while radio broadcast the ceremonial wheels and seven note lament, blending Shinto ritual with modern tech. Business suspended as crowds gathered under torchlight and snowfall.

The American steamer Idling was fired on near Ichang on the Yangtze as refugees aboard were protected by U S Consul reports. The vessel later foundered on rocks with no casualties reported. Washington notes two other refugee ships were fired upon at Patung causing peril for river transport.
Sunday evening at the First United Presbyterian auditorium Washington residents contributed 177.38 in cash and pledges for Near East Relief. Mrs. Katherine McCormick of Virginia, who has seen the suffering firsthand, urged aid for thirty thousand orphans and widows and described the refugee crises in Turkish controlled and recently transferred lands.
Wisner Nebraska February 7 F W Risser a local farmer began aviation as a sideline to farming. He bought a plane to attend farm sales and count livestock on his 160 acre farm. After a year of flying the plane earned 1700 in profit and he leased his farm to devote all his time to the aircraft.
Chicago, Feb. 7. Two firemen were killed when the flaming six story building collapsed during efforts to extinguish the blaze.
Iowa state releases show total livestock value up about 8.88 million dollars from 1916 to 1927 while town farms cut head numbers by 184 000. Hogs up 1 percent in headcount and value, cattle down 5 percent, horses down 3 percent, sheep up 10 percent.
Debris from a blaze injured several and killed two firemen, William Flynn and David Lynch. The Metropolitan Building sustained damage estimated at 1.5 million dollars.
The Iowa farm bureau in cooperation with F D Butcher of the extension service will hold several meetings to warn and educate farmers about the European corn borer and white grub worm. Sessions are set for Washington Y M C A on Wednesday at 2 00 pm Crawfordsville Tuesday afternoon Wellman Tuesday evening and Seventy Six Center Wednesday morning.
Des Moines, Feb. 7. The Iowa legislative committee studying bank guaranty laws is due home this week. Senator Charles J. Fulton said the panel gathered bankers and officials in Nebraska, Kansas, and South Dakota and will file a report by Feb. 15 detailing Nebraska’s guaranty fund as of Jan 1. The report will state facts and not include recommendations.
