In Muscatine a plea to Gov. Clyde Herring sought to swap Tony Thompson's death sentence for life imprisonment. Thompson, 34, of St. Louis, was convicted of murdering Martin Wolz, a Louisa County farmer, in the latest scene of ongoing murder trials.
Roy Sherwood service officer for the Keokuk post of the American Legion and former state officer missed his first legion meeting in 15 years this week.
Des Moines Mrs Ellen S P Moore of Schaller, Iowa funds a $25,000 swimming pool at Smouse Opportunity School for Crippled Children in memory of her son who died of infantile paralysis at age 11.
Des Moines firm Carleton D. Beh Co. secured Shenandoah waterworks improvement bonds at 4 percent interest with a $76 premium after a spirited bidding.
Police search for 16 year old Jennie Heys reported missing from Fort Dodge home since Friday. Parents alerted authorities and a search was organized to locate her.

Two men and a girl held in Keokuk for auto theft at Cedar Rapids and the holdup of Paul Smith near Donnellison. They gave the names Robert Huston 26 Harley Shannon 28 and Betty Young 20. Officers said they admitted the crimes.
DES MOINES The Iowa farm census is expected to be completed in another month, Frank Salas, supervisor for the Iowa district, announced. He said about half the lists of questions have been filled out and returned by census enumerators.
Mercy hospital surgeons amputated the left arm of Frank Hauser a farmer from near Walford Iowa after he was injured by a corn shredder while working at the Frank Schulte farm.
Governor Clyde Herring laughed at a report that E. H. Mulock Iowa emergency relief director wished to resign. The governor said Mulock tells him weekly he wants to quit, but he always talks him out of it.
Cedar Rapids reports Amana Corp will issue a 5 percent bonus totaling 6 751 on all 1934 wages. The colony payroll rose to 154 342 from 120 483 in 1933 despite drought hurting agriculture.
Des Moines lawmakers filed two controversial measures. Cunningham launches a gross income tax bill to repeal all taxes save gross income taxes and abolish the state board. Baldwin Harrington introduce a liquor by the drink bill with local option and biennial elections. The liquor plan sets quotas by town size and would source liquor from the state commission.

Flemington New Jersey February 6 Up Hauptmann defense counsel pressed to prove laxness of state police in the Lindbergh kidnapping investigation. Fisher Sjostrom and Kupler testified on fingerprint and ladder clues while cross examination suggested no prints were found in the nursery or on the ladder. The state theory remains that the kidnapper wore gloves.
Clinton reporting that the Iowa statute allowing finders of lost property to claim ten percent of its value will be reviewed by the supreme court. A verdict of 11,6387.90 was awarded to Alvip and Gus Flood for 100,500 dollars stolen from City National Bank nearly three years ago and hidden on the Floods farm, found the same day as the robbery. The first trial favored the bank, but the case was appealed and remanded for a new trial.

Nellie and Elizabeth Wessell aged 14 and 12 were operated on for appendicitis at Henry Heywood Memorial Hospital Gardner Massachusetts. Both procedures were performed successfully by the hospital staff.

Two men robbed the Iowa State Bank in Hamburg taking 1675 dollars. One entered the bank while the other waited in a Chevrolet outside. The inside robber forced six workers and two customers into the vault and escaped after seizing cash with a time lock denying access to the safe. No injuries reported. The getaway car headed south toward the Missouri line.
Governor Clyde L. Herring announced April 5 as the date for the double execution of Elmer Brewer and Pat Griffin. Convicted in 1933 for slaying Deputy Sheriff Dilworth during a 1932 arrest attempt near Waterloo, they appealed to the Iowa Supreme Court which denied a rehearing. They will be hanged under state law, the first since 1931, with 16 previous executions in Iowa by the state and three by military law.
DES MOINES Feb 6 The Supreme Court denied Harold M Cooper a change of venue for his liquor control case. Cedar Rapids judge had overruled a similar petition and the trial will start next Monday at Cedar Rapids.
Historic Wheelers Hall in Sandusky burned recently destroying a building famed for 1842 Dickens talk and a 1840s Harrison campaign appeal. Local authorities investigated the blaze as the structure sustained complete destruction.
