Des Moines House votes to abolish death penalty
In a heated three day debate the Towa House of Representatives voted 89 to 29 to abolish the death penalty. The bill makes life imprisonment mandatory for crimes now punishable by death and defeats a parole loophole. Democrats hailed the vote but some opposed members voiced remaining concerns.
