Lillian Mae Livezey, born December 13 1888 in Frytown, died at Shenk Rest Home in Wellman after weeks a patient. A four hour blaze driven by 40 mph northerly winds ruined the Swan building downtown Independence housing seven apartments and several offices including the Buchanan County farm bureau. Estimated damage around 200000 with insurance covering about a third of the structure. Firefighters from nearby towns aided the effort and the fire was contained before it spread to surrounding properties. No injuries were reported.

Frank J. Hora 84 of Washington County died Sunday morning February 4 in Washington County Hospital after three months of illness. He farmed seven miles north of Washington and served as Jackson Township trustee and on the Salem School board. Survivors include two daughters, two brothers, three sisters, three grandchildren and 10 great grandchildren.
