An equipment failure at the Iowa Southern Utilities central substation cut power in Washington area homes and businesses around 7:30 a.m. It was restored about 10 minutes later. Riverside man’s sentencing delayed by one week

County seeks new administrator as Bauers retire
Washington County officials plan to interview applicants next week to replace David and Grace Bauer now finishing 14 years as administrators of the county home. The board hopes to hire by April 1 to allow a month of overlap for a smooth transition. The Bauers, ages 62 and wife, will travel for a year after retirement. The board also set 1:30 p.m. Feb 14 for a public hearing on federal revenue sharing funds and 9 a.m. March 8 on the county budget with hearings in the courthouse conference room. A separate motion authorized the auditor to consult the County Historical Society about preserving ancient records slated for destruction in courthouse housekeeping.
