A deadly blaze swept through Cermak House, a nine story nursing home in Cicero, killing at least six residents and injuring about 21. Loretto Hospital reported five deaths and MacNeal Memorial one, as area hospitals counted casualties from the late afternoon blaze.

Seven Children Die In Fire At Upper West Side Tenement

In New York on a six story walkup, seven children aged 1 to 12 and three women suffocated after a fire swept through a rear first floor apartment. Officials suspect a cigarette caused the blaze.

Five year old great grandmother grows teeth in Kathmandu

In Kathmandu Nepal a 105 year old great grandmother Harimaya Kadariya reportedly grew two new teeth and saw her hair darken again. The official Nepal news agency notes she married at nine and has a large family of 608 descendants but offers no explanation for the changes.

Iowa 1975 crop value declines from 1974 totals

Iowa Crop and Livestock Reporting Service reports 1975 crop value at 42 billion dollars, down eight percent from 1974. Season prices fell for seeds and most crops, with higher prices for baled hay potatoes and popcorn. rye held steady. Gains in corn and soybean production partially offset lower averages.

Snowmobilers to Ride for MS Fund Drive This Saturday

The Drift Riders Inc. charity snowmobile ride proceeds this Saturday weather permitting to raise funds for multiple sclerosis.
