Health care knowledge gaps revealed in Harris survey
A Louis Harris study for Blue Cross finds 66 percent of Americans feel well informed about health care, yet 30 percent cannot identify any cancer signals and 27 percent cannot name heart attack symptoms. The report urges broader public and private education across schools, workplaces, and communities. Professing higher awareness, whites and older adults fared better, while Blacks and those under 30 were less informed. The physician remains the chief source of health information, though many have limited visits.
