Senators Propose One Year State Income Tax Suspension
In Des Moines on Wednesday night Senator J T Dykhouse announced he will introduce a bill to cancel state income tax collection for one year. Earlier Senator DeVere Watson announced a plan for a special session bill to repeal the tax entirely. Stores Will Close New Year’s Day Across Washington
Practically all businesses will close Saturday January 1 for New Year’s Day in Washington. Claude Tucker of the Chamber of Commerce said surveys show food stores lumber yards poultry houses barber shops department stores and other holiday closings. Mutual Truck Responds to Packwood Farm Fire
The Washington County Farmers Mutual Insurance fire truck was dispatched yesterday evening to a fire near Packwood in Jefferson county. An explosion killed a small boy and seriously injured another as a large corn crib burned and corn was destroyed. Firefighting units from Fairfield, Richland, and Washington were also summoned. Earlier, a Mutual truck helped control a grass fire at Old Field Farm, limiting damage to fields and preventing building loss.

Isaac A Lindsey Dies at 71 in Wellman Home
Isaac A Lindsey 71 died from pernicious anemia at his sister's home in Wellman. He spent most of his life in the Wellman area, worked as janitor and painter, and served as assistant postmaster. He was ordained a gospel minister and led Sunday school at Wellman Baptist. He left a daughter Mrs. Charles Shettler of Roanoke Indiana and son Cecil Lindsey of Hammond Indiana, plus siblings and two grandchildren.
