Kalona resident Walter Marner suffered the loss of four fingers when his left hand touched a power switch while reaching for the switch. He turned to shut off the machine and his hand contacted the pointer.
County Auditor Fred igsal said Hancock County will again pay a one dollar bounty for foxes starting January 1 after a previous discontinuation. Hunters must file an affidavit from the farmer whose land produced the fox.
Boone-Walter Johnson, 24, died here after a seven year period of invalidism from injuries suffered in a 1930 auto accident during a pheasant hunting trip. He became a junior in high school at the time and had since lived in a wheelchair.
State Agent George Dickey and Nebraska officers allegedly used methods unheard of outside Russia to move O. Sigman from Fort Dodge to Falls City to face a robbery charge. Gov Kraschel heard the claim this week through Sie man's attorney B B Burnquist who secured a habeas corpus writ in Lincoln. Burnquist accuses Sigman of forcible kidnapping and denial of the right to contact his wife and counsel.
Al Huebner 26 of Tamouth injures ligaments during a Big Apple dance at an event. He is hospitalized in Harlan with strained ligaments from the dance incident.
Chester P F Martin, a Story county farmer, sues Gilbert V Jiffin of Palo Alto county for $20,000 claiming alienation of his wife’s affection after divorce. Mrs Jiffin then filed for divorce and secured an uncontested decree on cruel and inhuman treatment.
H Root of the state highway commission announces new V shaped warning lights for snowplows to appear on all state plows within ten days. The top cab light will be red with four amber lights, all red from the rear, and no other trucks may use this lighting setup.
Tom Connery an elderly 68 year old Iowa City news vendor and former college instructor died after years of teaching in the west. He was well educated and known to his large clientele by name for his knowledge of mathematics Latin and Greek. He graduated from the University of Michigan and did graduate work in English philosophy at Iowa before teaching in the west until his eyesight failed him.
Rev. Seth Blauchter dean of Drake University Bible College is hospitalized in Omaha with head injuries after an automobile accident. His daughter Mary Beth aged 14 suffered minor injuries while his wife and 18 month old baby escaped with bruises. The family was hit by a sheep truck.
Rex the German shepherd lives on a Cedar Rapids farm with Mr and Mrs Neckville and helps with chores. He carries items from firewood to a five gallon lunch pail and even feeds pigs by dropping corn ears through the fence. He enjoys posing for photographers and often brings the camera to the yard.

George Fishburn father of Mrs Lander Kennedy of Washington died this morning at his Chaplin Nebraska home after illness. Funeral services are set for Saturday in Chaplin.

Elliott Roosevelt is named president and general manager of the Hearst chain of radio stations with headquarters in New York. He previously managed Hearst stations in the southwest and joins John Boettiger in the Roosevelt circle connected to Hearst enterprises.
Earl Simpson a 62 year old Washington contractor for 26 years died at 3 10 this morning at his home 809 West Madison street after several months illness He was bedfast since September 1 at L A Jones funeral home and to be buried in Elim Grove cemetery Surviving are his wife two sons Ernest and Everette a grandson and several siblings including Dr John K Simpson his brother and Buffalo New York pastor He was born August 25 1885 in Washington and educated at county schools and Washington academy
Jacob Koebel, 77, of Wayland, died about three o clock this morning at his home. He will be buried in Sugar Creek cemetery after a service at Sugar Creek church conducted by Rev. Willard Leichty. Born in Alsace Lorraine, France, he came to the United States at thirteen, lived in Ohio before moving to Wayland in 1892, married Elizabeth Wenger in 1884, and is survived by his wife, a son Lee Koebel, a daughter Kathryn Leichty, a foster daughter D F Meyer, twelve grandchildren, two brothers Jos and Chris, and his church membership.
Funeral services for J O Singmaster a horse breeder will be held Friday afternoon at two o clock in the Keota High School auditorium Rev B J Decker of St Patrick Catholic Church Ottumwa Iowa will direct services.

Comptroller C. B. Murtagh said the state ledger will show a $6,000,000 balance on January 1. Most of it will be spent before April when new tax revenues arrive. It is the highest year end balance in several years.
King Farouk dismissed his cabinet as a deepening clash over appointive and administrative powers sowed a volatile political crisis in Cairo. The move followed a widening rift between the monarch and government amid growing opposition.
Examiners from the state department renewed 61 chauffeur licenses in Washington County on their last 1937 visit, bringing total renewals to 277 for 1938. An estimated few dozen chauffeurs may still renew elsewhere or later, while some drivers obtained licenses in Iowa City or other counties. The inspectors also administered driving tests to three applicants.

The group outlined plans to organize in eleven counties to win the district in the June primary and November election.
