Henry Wicher has been appointed U S Assistant District Attorney for the district, succeeding Cassady who was removed. Among many applicants Wicher was chosen. The selection is praised as a fine choice and expected to be filled satisfactorily.
The Chase-Lister Company presented a strong production last evening led by Gillingwater and Minkley. Sadie Stockton made a promising debut and Hattie Van Buren delivered a beautiful solo. The balcony roast by Mr. Chase drew harsh reactions and calls for security.
In a Mahaska County court hearing on continuances for the Seevers case, Judge Dewey castigated attorneys for court-busking remarks describing it as characteristic county practice. He warned he would jail every lawyer if such behavior continued, delivering a blunt jab at courtroom decorum.
Three men held for a passenger train robbery in Muscatine were discharged after the state could not compel the victim to appear. County Attorney Jackson ordered a discharge, noting the burden and cost to the county and that the victim is outside Iowa jurisdiction. The men were ticketed for Davenport on the Firefly this morning. The Muscatine Journal reports the second item: a decomposed unknown man found in the Mississippi River near the city, with an inquest to determine identity. coroner and undertaker involved and authorities notified across Davenport, Rock Island, and Moline.
