The Jaycees will collect Christmas trees in Washington on Tuesday January 6 starting at 7 p.m. This pickup is a one night event. Trees should be left on the terrace at block corners and kept clear of intersections to avoid wind scatter and ensure motorist visibility.
UPI survey of Iowa Republican county chairmen shows President Ford and former California Governor Reagan each at about 47 percent with 6 percent undecided. Humphrey leads Democrats with about 38 percent, Carter and Bayh trailing.
Ray Osborn of the Iowa Highway 333 Association announced elation at the DOT five year plan to pave Iowa 333 crossing southern Page County. The project flags right of way purchase in 1980 with completion after 1981 at a cost near 3 million dollars.
William Skinner, chair of the Butler County Board of Supervisors, signed a demolition contract for the old courthouse before learning Torrance Gray offered 100000 dollars to buy the building, dismantle it, and ship it to California where it would be reassembled. Gray is a California lawyer with Iowa roots.
Iowa City will host a formal re opening of Old Capitol on Saturday July 3 1976 at 1 p m. Governor Robert D Ray will speak and the building will reopen to the public after restoration aimed at the 1840s 1850s period. Public tours will begin during the four day event.

In Dearborn Heights Michigan the man who abandoned eight puppies behind a supermarket in subfreezing weather faces animal cruelty charges. Mayor John M Harris vows to pursue jail time and keep the survivors until homes are found. Two puppies died in a patrol car and another died later at the station. One puppy with frozen hind legs was treated by a veterinarian.
