Five Die Weekend Traffic Toll Tops Iowa Count
Weekend traffic toll in Iowa rose to five with the death of Merlin Ames in Prairie Du Chien Wisconsin and other fatal crashes across the state. Fire guts Iowa Power building at Clarinda
A blazing section of the old Iowa Power and Light Co building in Clarinda was gutted Monday night after Clarinda Shenandoah units fought a very hot fire. Fire crews from the Mental Health Institute and Shenandoah brought the blaze under control about an hour after the 9 20 p m call. Two other sections escaped heavy damage. The brick two story structure stood a half block north of the city square. Heat damaged a nearby coin operated laundry and melted a plastic sign but no other buildings were harmed.
