Washington report shows Americans mailed an estimated 86 billion cards and items during the Christmas season, a record and 350 million more than last year. Deputy Postmaster General Merrill A Hayden said most post offices would be clear of Christmas mail by tonight.

An anonymous donor gave 50000 dollars to Iowa Methodist Hospital to support a new high risk infant neo natal center. The donor asked to remain unnamed for now and tied the gift to the spirit of the Child in the manger, noting the holy infant symbolizes babies helped by the service.
