Des Moines district office of price administration shows 1944 collections from price ceiling violations totaling 206000 since January 1, with 1943’s total at 150161. Most funds come from the food group, 158284 year to date, while penalties range from a quarter cent per pound to hundreds of dollars on equipment.
DES MOINES The state health department warned of a possible winter rise in scarlet fever. It said 149 cases this month versus 124 in the first 20 days of November, with over 4,450 Iowans infected this year. Parents of small children urged to home isolate at first throat irritation and consult a doctor to prevent complications.
Policeman Henry Slikkerveer fifty of Sibley raised a .45 caliber revolver to his forehead and fired from the dining table Tuesday night. He died soon after at Osceola county hospital. A former barber in Little Rock and Ashton Iowa, he had served eight years on the Sibley force. Survived by his wife, two daughters, a son in the air force, and a daughter. Services set for Friday.
Lloyd Waddell the secretary of the Des Moines River Valley project accused Des Moines groups of trying to kill the Red Rock dam by cutting its height. Congress recently acted on a flood control bill authorizing a Des Moines river dam at Red Rock after an amendment to lower the spillway crest was dropped in conference. Industrial plant owners fear flooding of their property in heavy rains.

Christmas program by Riverside Trinity Methodist Church Sunday school classes Friday at 8. Invocations by Rev. C F Fitzsimmons and remarks by Rev. M O McKenzie. The program features songs, recitations, piano, and a manager scene with primary classes and several named participants.
Dale Palmer, 19, of Washington Iowa, was seriously injured when the car he rode in was struck by a Rock Island freight engine Monday afternoon. He was dragged beneath the car and suffered a broken pelvis and other injuries. He was reported today at Mahaska hospital as good as could be expected.
Dale Palmer was taken yesterday afternoon from Oska loosa hospital to University hospital at Iowa City for treatment and an operation.
Washington temperatures fell below zero once more with a low at one below. Morning readings reached five above, then slipped toward the coldest point of the day. By noon the thermometer showed four above.

Tokyo radio said British carrier based planes raided Sabang the Sumatra harbor and air base Thursday night Japanese time. Sabang is a natural harbor on Pulu Weh island about 20 miles off Sumatra's northern tip. Sabang lies about 600 miles from Singapore and 900 miles from Ceylon. Sabang has been raided before.

Miles Vastine 74 of Fort Madison died after a stroke at a local hospital. He married Catherine Ferguson in 1924. survived by a wife and children in Texas and Florida.

Senators favor longer sessions more than representatives with GOP members predicting longer terms. forecasts range from 75 to 125 days.
Geneva New York reports that paraffinic petrol oils provide control of San Jose scale on fruit trees. Concentrations as low as one percent are said to be effective according to the state experiment station.
Berlin reports the Red army has resumed pressure in western Hungary between Lake Balaton and the Danube with at least ten divisions in a major assault breaching German lines. The main push centers near Szekesfehervar, 32 miles from Budapest, as Hungary’s capital is encircled by the western thrust.
