Israel Fagen a 41 year old Davenport attorney was arrested on a charge of writing a fraudulent check. A 30 day suspended sentence had been imposed weeks earlier by Police Magistrate John J McSwiggin on a similar charge.
In Iowa near New Virginia RE1 Scickel and A L Sanders died at their homes within hours of each other. Wives survive. Ackley Anna Helle Wid gon 18 to spend Christmas at home after all. Since Sept 29 Anna Bee daughter of Mr and Mrs Robert Wilson Ackley has been in an iron lung in Fort Dodge hospital for infantile paralysis plans to move another iron lung to Fort Dodge and bring her home for the holiday.

Waterloo police say Kenneth Wilder aged 20 admitted stealing $12 from four children’s Christmas savings banks belonging to Mr and Mrs Paul Weder In addition he admitted burglaries at the homes of Charles Grady south of Waterloo and Byron Johnson south of Cedar Falls Black Hawk County officers reported Wilder is in jail awaiting further action.

Mrs Fl yer D Sparks 23 of Hartington Neb underwent a blood transfusion in Sioux City after severe burns from a blaze that trapped her upstairs apartment while she attempted to save her 4 year old daughter. Neighbors aided by Charles Schirmer, who fought through flames to drag Sparks to safety.
DES MOINES WPA workers on Iowa projects will receive a full holiday on December 24 and again on Christmas and New Year’s Day. Deputy administrator A. Michel said workers are paid only for time actually worked and arrangements ensure all required time is worked before December 24.
A major quake centered in the New Hampshire mountains disrupted parts of New York and New England, with no injuries reported. Windows and dishes broke, telephone service faltered in parts of Massachusetts, and Boston residents feared an explosion while police and radio dispatchers described the tremor felt from Montreal to Boston.

The annual free Christmas movie event at the State Theater opened by Pratt brothers returns Tuesday December 14 at 10 a.m. Warner Bros MGM and Paramount cooperate this year. Roy heads to Chicago while Mrs. Long sails to Boston and another son and daughter fly to Washington from west and east coasts after being informed of their mother’s passing.
Rev. James E. Morris, pastor of the Church of the Nazarene in Washington for two years, will leave next week to serve at Broadway Church in Waterloo. His last Sunday in Washington will be next Sunday with midweek service Thursday. The Waterloo church is larger with strong growth prospects and a Des Moines district official will choose a replacement for Washington.
The Bob Anderson orchestra will perform at Washington's annual Christmas ball on December 25 at City Hall. The group, a leading Chicago jobbing band, venues include Morrison hotel Terrace Casino and Hotel Sherman ball room. Irene Moisan sings with two-piano numbers. decorations by Donald Palmer Rendlossom as the Y's Men’s club leads the decor effort.
Relatives of Henry O Keller of Dallas Center learned his brother William Keller aged 73 of Bradford Ohio died in an auto collision near Canton NL while traveling to attend the Dallas Center funeral. Niece Mary Bricker 52 was critically injured and taken to a Peoria Wisconsin hospital. Rev Jacob Etter Bradford pastor was riding with Keller and will conduct services.
Doris R. Parrish filed for divorce and alimony from Frank R. Parrish in district court yesterday. Attorneys Baldrige and Bailey represent the plaintiff.
The Christmas vacation schedule at the Y M C A lists daily programs for different age groups and activities. Include basketball contests free throw events and tournaments for 4th to 8th graders plus high school age basketball, swimming, ping pong, treasure hunts, and an industrial hike with times and meeting dates.
Funeral services for Mrs G W Corbin will be conducted at two o clock Sunday afternoon by Rev Kk C C Kenagy of the Methodist church at the L A Jones funeral home. Burial will follow in Bim Grove cemetery.
Members of Troop D, 113th Cavalry, will receive checks totaling 59.05 from Captain Jay Brown after seven this evening at the armory. An Iowa interim legislative committee urged purchasing the former Lutheran orphanage property near Stanton for use with the Glenwood state school. Rep. O. N. Hultman said the 240 acres, including buildings, could likely be bought for about 100 dollars per acre. The Lutheran church no longer operates the home.
