Fiery truck crash kills eight near St. Andrews in Indiana

A gasoline truck jackknifed and exploded on the northeast side of IndianaLuts City near St. Andrews causing a blaze that sent flames 50 feet high. Eight people died, with witnesses comparing the fire to napalm as residents rushed to aid victims and bystanders. Police investigated the cause of the crash.

Plane crash in Colombia kills 17 on holiday flight

A chartered Aerocondor plane with 60 aboard from Miami crashed in fog while landing at El Dorado Airport, Bogota. Seventeen dead, including four Americans. ten injured, many hospitalized. Survivors named include Kenneth Bridges and Xavier Tuttle. Florida family members and others accounted for. The four-engine jet carried a crew of seven and registry 7301-C.

Station Assessments to Replace Fieldmen in Washington County

Washington County will run a Station Assessing program in 1967. Ten stations with three assessors each will collect personal property forms, value property, and process homestead and veteran exemptions. Residents must report on assigned days. exceptions apply for age or illness with home visits. All business rolls due by February 15 with penalties for late filing.

Bombing raids near Hanoi accompany Vietnam troop surge

US planes bombed the Ha Gia oil dump near Hanoi as MIG interceptors rose without dogfights. The latest raids followed earlier raids on Yen Dien and Van Dien near the city. 1,400 new troops of the 9th Infantry Division landed at Vung Tau joining more than 370,000 American personnel in Vietnam. General Westmoreland welcomed the GIs while Air Cavalry hunted a Communist battalion in Central Highlands, with a 24 hour clash causing multiple casualties.

William Manchester, author of The Death of a President, denies betraying Mrs Kennedy or violating his publishing agreement. He says the book should weather history and asks for time to stand up to scrutiny. A hearing set for December 27 to determine injunction against publication.

Romney wonders if Johnson will run in 1968

Michigan Governor George W. Romney says he is beginning to wonder whether President Johnson might decide not to run for reelection in 1968. Romney, a leading Republican hopeful, cautions his own decision to run depends on many factors and hints administration policy could influence Johnson's choice. He plans a South Vietnam trip to gain firsthand understanding of the war and says there is no simple solution to the conflict.

Four teens shot at birthday party in St Louis area

Three youths died after a drinking party turned violent in a remote area near St Louis. A fourth boy remained critical. Police arrested Richard Otis 21 Daniel McNamee 18 and two juveniles. Otis allegedly argued with the victims after being struck during the birthday gathering.

Toll of 1966 traffic deaths toll rises in Iowa report

United Press Intern reports eight Iowa traffic fatalities over the weekend and the year toll reaching 875. Davenport man Vernon Latham, 31, and others including Ella Murphy, Morris Boster, Robert Shady, and Ronald Sadler die in one and two car accidents across Davenport Des Moines Decorah Mason City Cedar Rapids. Weather and icy patches cited in several crashes.

Denison man killed in farm shotgun accident

Henry Roger Suntken, 21, of Denison, was killed on a Wayne Novotne Farm near Denison when a 12 gauge shotgun fired while he talked with a friend. Sheriff's report says the shot passed from his hand into his head through the throat as weapons rested against a barn door. Survived by his mother in Denison.

Question answer on industrial revenue bond project timeline
