Farmers plan co op to buy Community Feed elevator
In Ainsworth area a farmers group seeks 100 members each investing 500 to form a cooperative on the current Community Feed elevator site. Bill Trotter says health forces him to leave the business and the group has until February 1 to secure support with Farmland Industries ready to back and operate the co op if the stock exists. Steering committee hopes to have 100 members registered by January 1.

Record beeves weigh in for Washington County 4-H fair
A record 293 4-H and FFA market beeves were enrolled and weighed in at five locations in Washington County. This is a 45 percent rise from last year and from 210 head in 1974. Crossbred calves dominate with 164 head and the average weight is 525 pounds. The county fair opens July 26 after 226 days, with gain rates used by judges.

Fettermans Escape After Car Hits Blown Storage Building
The Fetterman family from Treynor escaped injury when their car crashed into a storage building that had blown onto Highway 59 north of Emerson during a windstorm. WASHINGTON UPI The House failed to override President Ford's veto of tax cut legislation. The 265 to 157 vote fell 17 short of the needed two thirds, leaving little chance to extend 1975 recession measures into 1976. A family of four earning 10000 would face 292 more yearly taxes. others at 7000 and 15000 would see 270 and 246 respectively. Speaker Carl Albert commented prior to adjournment fears.

Salary schedule approved for Washington County officials
The Washington County Compensation Board approved a 5 percent pay increase for most elected officials, with the auditor gaining 480 more annually for new duties. The sheriff gets 6000 plus 750 housing, the rest rise about five percent. Effective July 1, 1976, new salaries list supervisors 8560, auditor 12425, clerk of court treasurer recorder 11945, sheriff 12600 plus housing, and county attorney 13860.
