Sioux City court records show Curt Reed, 69, jailed for one month after admitting he struck neighbor John Kathary, 67, on the head with a switch four feet long and two inches thick during a dispute over tree cutting. The judge noted the switch’s unusually large size.
Des Moines reports Paul Burton DeWitt of Sioux City named state law librarian by the state library board. DeWitt, a graduate of the University of Iowa and Michigan Law School, will replace the late A J Smell who held the post for 41 years. Salary set at 3000 dollars and he will assume duties immediately.
Perry-Leland Reetor, 22, of Perry, jailed in a $500 bail on charges of buying beer for minors. Police say he and four Perry youths were arrested in a local cafe where two partly filled beer bottles were found at their table. The four youths, all 18, were released.
After an eight day trial presenting about 470 exhibits final arguments were heard in the case against Eldora mayor H W Emery over alleged irregularities in office. The major issue centered on whether a justice can levy a fine for driving while intoxicated.
Shenandoah reports that only four of thirteen churches offer Sunday night services now. The First Methodist church, the largest in Shenandoah, has discontinued evening services due to weak congregational support, per Pastor FE A Rentzinger.

Des Moines December 16 An attorney general report seeks an opinion on the liability of former state curator Edgar R. Harlan 69 in connection with an $18 000 gift for the Davenport room at the state historical building. The present curator Klingaman reports no complete accounting for fund expenditures and furnishings valued at about 2000. Harlan's son James says he cannot reach his father and has not forwarded two bushels of mail.

Will F. Lampe aged 72 or 73 died at his Wayland home after years of paralysis and recent critical condition. He married Lucy Swango 49 years ago and is survived by six children including Mrs. Edgar Payne and Everette Lampe. Lampe was a member of the Wayland Methodist church.
Funeral services for John N. Ramsey are set for Friday at two o'clock at the Keota Methodist church with burial in the Keota cemetery. Ramsey died on his 76th birthday after a long illness, having been homebound for nearly a year. He was born in Illinois, raised in Keota, and worked as a pharmacist in his brother BE. Ramsey's wife Mae Newton and daughter Lilly survived, along with three sisters in Wisconsin, Keota, and Texas.
