Reports from Hankow and Hong Kong confirm a Canton raid on the Soviet consulate and police HQ, with twenty one Russian and Chinese communists killed and several noted figures among the dead. The violence follows a Chinese workers’ and peasants’ coup and subsequent nationalist countermeasures.
Mr and Mrs Charles Eutsler of Carroltown Missouri were visiting for the illness of his father Frank Eutsler who died last night They were called home when word reached them that Eugene Lyon Mrs Eutsler's son had his hand caught in a bread machine at Mr Butslers bakery in Carroltown His injury severity is not yet known It is unclear if the family will return for the funeral due to conditions at home
Proceedings to oust John W. Jenney commissioner of public safety will start in district court today. The American Homes association says Jenney refused to resign yesterday and faced 89 charges. Jenney turned the resignation letter over to postal authorities for investigation on alleged mail misuse.
In Sangamon county jail yard James Hayes, 239, of Mound City, was hanged at 10 12 a m for the axe murder of Mrs Sarah Flatt, a New Berlin housekeeper, on May 25 1927. The victim’s daughter had been implicated in prior assault charges which were dropped after the murder conviction.
The Journal Good Fellow department urges Washington residents to donate money toys clothing and food before Monday December 19. Only $109 in cash and checks has been received. the Y Mens club seeks at least $100 more and many locals have sent coupons. Business leaders are urged to contribute volunteers will not be solicited this year.
Charles Glick, a switchman for the Rock Island Lines at Silvis, was injured yesterday afternoon in a train accident. He suffered the loss of one foot and is in serious condition. Glick is the son of Mrs. August Glick and formerly resided here.

National guardsmen blocked an Oklahoma House investigation committee from meeting in the open senate chamber to discuss charges of moral turpitude against Governor Henry S. Johnston. The house chamber remained barred by troops as the senate, allowed to meet, recessed for Christmas holidays.

Walter Jones, 18, who escaped from Greensboro NC, will be taken to Anamosa today to serve a 15 year sentence in the Men’s Reformatory for forgery. He pleaded guilty before Judge E S Wells to robbing the baggage master’s office in the union depot on Oct 30 and taking $995 in Burlington Railroad employee pay checks. He cashed the checks locally.
Al Capone was arrested in Joliet on a charge of carrying concealed weapons as he rode a train from Los Angeles to Chicago. He traveled with his brother Ralph and five Chicago associates. Capone reportedly planned to continue to Cicero, a Chicago suburb, after stopping at the station. Local police had sought to meet him for questioning.

Other minima include Dubuque 2, Des Moines 4, Davenport and Keokuk 5.
Dr W Eastwood was elected chairman of the Washington county Red Cross chapter at the annual meeting held at the YMCA. Officers include Frank Sage vice chairman Susie Edgington secretary Lee Holland treasurer and department chairmen for home service nursing first aid publicity volunteer service disaster nutrition and more. The county reports 655 members and 66980 in roll call contributions with plans to add about 60 members. T W Chehock Red Cross field representative from Iowa City spoke.
Frank W. Butsler died at 11 05 last night at his home on West second street after a year of ill health following influenza that led to a heart ailment. Funeral services are set for Sunday at 2 30 at Goodin funeral parlors with Dr W W Bowers of the Methodist church in charge. Burial will be in Im Grove cemetery. He was born at Muscatine May 24 1867 and married Mary Jane Foster Sept 14 1892. Surviving are his widow, two daughters Mrs Will Dusenberry and Mrs Roy Libe, and son Charles W Bustler. He also leaves three brothers William Bustler of Atalissa, Vernon of Walcott, Roy of East Moline Hill, and two sisters Mrs Laura Blair of Atlissa and Mrs Jane Myers of Tipton. He was a Methodist and known for tree trimming work locally.
