Nationalist authorities in Shanghai handed a note to the Russian Consul announcing severance of relations with the Russian government. Passports were issued to Koslovsky and colleagues, and the Russian trading organization and bank were ordered closed. Hundreds of Reds were arrested in a nationwide roundup following the Canton seizure. Soldiers were deployed to round up dissidents as authorities notified Moscow.

A blaze at the century old hospice of St Charles in Quebec city killed or left missing roughly 40 or more orphans cared for by the Sisters of the Good Shepherd. Nuns and workers evacuated residents as firemen battled the flames through the night. the disaster caused extensive property damage and a large casualty count with dozens still unaccounted at dawn.

Yoder Not Guilty in Mink Pelts Theft Case
A six member jury in Justice W. E. Barber's court found Cornelius E. Yoder of Kalona not guilty of stealing two mink pelts from Charles Marek. Marek identified the hides which were later returned, and the prosecution's claim that Yoder sold them to a Kalona fur dealer was not proven. Boy Hurt at Rock Island Coal Chute
Herman Willison an 18 year old from Pitler Wisconsin was badly hurt on a Rock Island freight near the coal chute. His ankle was caught between two car bumpers and severely mutilated. He was taken to the county hospital for care and doctors hope amputation will not be required. He was beating his way across the country when the accident occurred.
