Washington Community School Board hires three teachers

The Washington Community school board voted February 1967 start dates for Katpn 8. Bartelt in distributive Education and Business Law, Connie Lee Lange for junior high English January 3, Mary Ann McClain for senior high girls PE January 16, and Gilbert J. Cavin as custodian. The board accepted resignations of Mary Fish and Robert B. McGrumphry, approved purchase of a new bell clock system, and planned restroom remodeling at Lincoln and Stewart Schools.

Space weapons ban treaty eyed by Senate in coming year

United States and Soviet Union have discussed a treaty to ban outer space weapons. The agreement would prohibit orbiting or stationing weapons of mass destruction while allowing ICBMs to briefly enter space. France is expected to sign, with mutual inspections of Moon stations and broad intelligence monitoring to detect violations.

Iowa Guard F-100 crashes during training near Woodbine

Maj. Lawrence J. Kennedy Jr. of Hinton, 42, father of 11, led four planes when his F-100 crashed in a wooded Harrison County hill area. Air Force investigators aided in the scene noted no explosion and Kennedy could not recover from a turn. Kennedy was an operations officer of the 174th Tactical Fighter Squadron.
