Keith Leis Wanger of Council Bluffs has undergone five operations for a bone infection in his leg. He is in a local hospital and fears missing school. A tutor from the city schools visits the hospital to teach him. A pretty nurse captivates him as school work eases his pain.
Creston residents approved a bond issue to buy and improve water works to prevent a repeat of last fall's water crisis. Partial ward returns showed 1,750 in favor and 1,055 against the project.
Sioux City resident Robert Pingel aged 16 died in a hospital Friday from injuries suffered a month earlier while practicing with the Suther land high school football team. He broke a shoulder during practice and a blood clot developed.
Iowa housing division reports 41 new houses to be built at 140 228 dollars in November up from 36 dwellings costing 56 900 the prior year. Des Moines bureau of public health notes the jump equals about 70 000 dollars more in value.

Ebb Williams 52 of Cotter committed suicide by hanging yesterday at his home three miles southeast of Cotter. Coroner J H Collins declares death by own action. He had despondent financial worries and lived on the farm where born August 8, 1882. Survived by widow Ida Hauenstein, two sons Frank and Jack, daughter Mildred, two sisters Ruth Tustison and Margaret Owen, and brother Arthur Williams. Funeral at Cotter Presbyterian Church Sunday at 2 PM.
Des Moines December 15 interstate reports show a $2500 discrepancy between Sioux City liquor store records and the state auditor commission records. Chairman Harold M Cooper notes the issue affects salary and related expenses and the figures approximate the requested amount.
Washington county old age assistance board chaired by H G Richardson meets every Tuesday with four investigators to speed pension applications. In Norwalk area band of twelve men planted seven explosives and fired seven shots at carpenter James Garrett, then robbed a bank in North Fairfield, taking $1,000 and fleeing by car. Seventeen sailors were drowned while rescuing the crew of the freighter Usworth in the North Atlantic. The Cunard liner Ateania reported that an ice boat from the Jean Jadot capsized after rescuers saved the Usworth crew, plunging fifteen Usworth sailors and two from the Jean Jadot into the sea.
Washington reports that Finland is the sole nation to meet its war debt obligation today, paying $2,228,638 of $158,729,076 due. The United States received only notes from the other debtors explaining their inability to pay.
A Fitchburg high school fire killed one firefighter and wounded three others. The blaze caused about 700000 dollars in damage and leveled the school. Nearby in Elmsford a wax factory apartment house and hotel were destroyed by fire and the town faced spread of flames.
Myron Kirkpatrick of Grand Rapids state supervisor for Wisconsin National Life Insurance escaped a Lansing hotel fire by tying sheets and blankets into a rope fastened to a radiator to descend from the fourth floor. Flames shattered the transom above his door. he lost clothing papers and money but was unhurt. He is son in law of Rev Mea Ww McBlain of West Chester who visited the McBlain home last summer.
