President Harding and his cabinet met for over two hours to review the European reparation disagreement between Great Britain and France. The administration gave no policy details but indicated a readiness to gather facts to determine any possible helpful role in settlement.
At a Methodist church meeting plans were laid for the Sunday school convention to be held in Washington on May 9 and 10, 1923. Supt W C Harding was named general chairman with Frank R Sage as assistant. About 4 000 attendees are expected including 600 delegates from out of town and Washington city pledging 500.
Elmer Fish received a thirty day sentence in the county jail from Squire D. Coyle after admitting to striking his mother who pressed the assault and battery charge.
Camp Grant once housed about 60,000 soldiers and 5,656 acres will be auctioned off. A surveyby three army officers assesses salvage value of buildings near the old base hospital site. Areas for National Guard use and a proposed federal reformatory are excluded from the survey.
Des Moines Iowa December 15 registration of all firearms concealable on a person is proposed in a new bill to be entered in the fortieth general assembly with support from the Iowa county attorneys association. Every concealable weapon would have to be registered with the county sheriff where the owner lives.
Four men robbed Farmers State Bank in Layfette Minnesota early this morning later blowing the vault. They escaped with 1500 dollars in cash plus liberty bonds and war stamps totaling more than 20000 dollars.
Prohibition Agent Sam Collins said Sam Ballard, leader of Manifee county moonshiners, was killed in a morning gun battle with twenty agents. Prohibition agent Guy Cole also died in the crash and Charles Ballard was wounded during the clash in Kentucky.
Representative Keller of Minnesota did not show up for a summons before the House Judiciary Committee. His attorney Jackson Ralston asked for postponement until tomorrow. The committee approved a delay until 10:30 tomorrow.
The Southern Pacific board of inquiry investigating the Humble train wreck plans to report today. The toll rose to nineteen with a Black passenger among the dead. Twelve injured are in Houston hospitals and doctors doubt all will survive.
Iowa. December 15. A city hall scandal prompts a wide audit as one former employee Miss Mary Fraze faces district court on alleged financial irregularities. Attorney J B Pendergast is arrested with marked bills linked to a Swigert payoff. Police Chief Hammond vows a full municipal court inquiry.
A Reuters dispatch from Chita says American newspaperwoman Marguerite Harrison Balet has been arrested and is being escorted to Moscow. Charges are not disclosed. This marks the third detention in Russia in three years, with reports reaching London on December 15.
A bronze statue of Hermann von Wiszmann, former German East Africa governor, was unveiled in Hamburg after relocation from Dar es Salaam. The ceremony drew a notable crowd including Wiszmann’s widow and ex-governors, with speakers urging Germany to regain its colonial possessions and dream of a “place in the sun.”

Omaha dispatch reports police arrested a man claiming to be J. J. Ryan in the December 4 shooting of Deputy Sheriff Pafentar in Clarinda Iowa. Ryan refused to discuss the case. Pafentar was shot as he surprised three men attempting to steal a car from Mrs Myrtle Mies garage. he was struck by three bullets.
Ambassador Harvey is being recalled to London for consultation and will sail on December 23. Officials confirmed the move but did not disclose the topic. Observers link the summons to tensions over German reparations affecting France and Britain.
Paris December 15 Premier Poncaire told the chamber of deputies he stood ready to withdraw if a cabinet better suited to France’s work was available. Separately Mr and Mrs Charlie Schmoller move to a new home on South Iowa Avenue from an apartment above the Commercial bank.
Mrs Mae Sturgeon of Keota spent yesterday in Washington visiting officials and attending events. She planned meetings with local delegation members and toured nearby landmarks during her stay.
