The Iowa statehouse installs a 16 foot Christmas tree on the main floor rotunda. Custodians designed a string of oversized lights that stay lit when one bulb fails. The tree is described as resplendent with all the trimmings.
About 100 trailer homes will be placed on the old football field along the Iowa river for State University of Iowa student veterans by February 4, 1946, when the next semester starts. Architect George Horner noted a further 150 trailers will be added later, with part of the second group likely east of the river near the Fine Arts building. Trailers are being obtained from Lima and Akron, Ohio, and should begin arriving at four to eight per day within two weeks.
Police sought two men about 22 and 27 after they robbed Clara Cargill 51 of 1347 dollars from her slip in her Shenandoah home. Foster 62, a nursery employee, was partly gagged and tied as the bandits seized the money sewn in cloth bags under Mrs. Cargill’s nightgown.
DES MOINES The 1946 Iowa state fair August 23 to SO will be billed as a state Centennial exposition but the fair board lacks cash plans. Governor Blue hopes a statewide series of centennial festivities sponsored by communities counties and at fairs culminates in the state fair.
Brigadier General Charles H. Grahl, state selective service director, says the farm draft is stepped up though few were taken during harvest. Some farm boys were drafted, others held off at boards’ request. Iowa January quota remains about the same as December.
Rail officials report the Rock Island main line near Oxford Iowa City resumed traffic Thursday afternoon after a derailment of five cars on an east bound passenger train. Two passenger cars and three baggage coaches left the rails at about 3 am but did not overturn. No injuries. Cause of the mishap remains unknown.

Keller Rockey said wreckage of five planes was found 80 miles northwest of Tsingsao. a sixth was missing. Seven airmen reported dead and two injured. three unaccounted for. Communications to Tsingsao were cut by Chinese communists, isolating Chantung coast. Rescue expected to be aerial due to terrain and accessibility.
Peter Varonoff, author and evangelist, who spent twelve years in Soviet Russia, speaks at 7 30 p m Sunday December 16 at the Presbyterian church. Rev T E White announces the event and notes Varonoff will discuss Europe’s events leading to the world crisis with slides titled Russia God and Victory.

The Methodist Church choir conducted by Herbert Osinecup with Edna Kleir on organ presents Hawleys cantata The Christ Child Sunday at 7 30 PM in a candle light service. The program includes orchestral and vocal solos plus choir pieces continuing the Christmas story through song.

Oklahoma City dated December 14 reports FBI special agent D. A. Bryce announced that Mace Times, a notorious bank robber, died this morning in a Little Rock hospital. Tomes, wanted by police and federal authorities, was injured after being struck by a truck in Little Rock more than a week ago.

Omaha resident Robert J. Stahmer a senior at Pittsburgh Xenia theological seminary will preach at United Presbyterian Church Ainsworth on Sunday and December 30 as a candidate for pastor. He was licensed after Beaver Valley presbytery trials in Pennsylvania and will be accompanied by his wife. Both graduates of Sterling College Kansas. A large crowd is expected as the church seeks a permanent pastor after three years without one.
Josef Kramer and ten other Belsen camp officials, including three women, were executed at Hamelin Prison after a nine week trial by a British military court. The process began with Elizabeth Veolkenard at 9 30 a.m. and concluded with Kramer and Dr Fritz Klein at 12 11 p.m. The executions followed six hours of SS men taking turns at the gallows.
General George C. Marshall will depart at 9 00 a m tomorrow for his new post in China as President Truman's personal ambassador. He met with Truman for about 15 minutes and will fly on a C 54 to Chungking, weather permitting, aiming to arrive next Thursday Chinese time. A military attache and a State Department attache will accompany him.
Funeral services for Hal Reister were held yesterday afternoon at L. A. Jones funeral home led by Dr. Fred E. Miller with T. L. Brookhart directing the Masonic burial service. Pallbearers Will Rawn Carl Kelly Will Harwood Roy Randall Harry Springman Floyd Roe. Masonic lodge members and fire department attended. Burial in Elm Grove Cemetery.
Judge J. G. Patterson of O5 kaloosa sentenced J. B. Altizer of West Point to pay a 300 dollar fine and suspended his driving license for six months after he pleaded guilty to operating a motor vehicle while intoxicated. Altizer was arrested November 25 after his car collided on road 218 south of Crawfordsville.

Moscow reports that control of Japan ranked second only to atomic energy talks at the upcoming foreign ministers meeting of Russia the United States and Britain. A radio Moscow commentator urged friendly Allied cooperation to resolve Japan questions and welcomed a peace conference with Secretary Byrnes.
