In Jalisco two battles last week between 600 rebels and federal troops left 96 Catholics dead including priest Jose Cabrales. Federal forces consolidated in Jalisco Nichoacan and Aguas Calentes with expected wipeout of the rebel group. federal casualties not yet reported.
Word has been received that Professor I. B. Sehmidt head of History and Government at Iowa State College will broadcast on WOT the first and third Wednesdays each month at 10 o'clock a m Mrs L B Sehmidt chair Historic Relic committee of the Iowa Society Daughters of the American Revolution will present topics of special interest to citizens of Iowa December 21 at 10 o'clock a m Those who know these people predict the talks will be very interesting
The Senate authorized continuation of its primary investigating committee to allow a new trial for Senators-elect Ware and Smith who were barred from taking the oath over campaign expenditures. The reviving resolution followed a tense clash between Senators Reed of Pa. and Reed of Mo. over the issue.
A man named H. W. Blood was struck by a Ford auto downtown Saturday evening and sustained cuts and bruises. The driver fled the scene. White Star Line steamships leaving Montreal for Liverpool are out of sight of land, four days at sea.
Iowa state highway bids will be opened in Ames for 85.295 miles of primary roads across seven counties Monona Muscatine Plymouth Woodbury Harrison Appanoose and Kossuth. Contracts include bridge culvert river bank protection and paving with total value about 2.5 million dollars. Preliminary bids cover 34 automobiles two of the 1750 class and related materials and paints.
The Good Fellow program asks Washington citizens to donate money, food, or clothing and to submit the coupon in the Journal. If goods are sent, the committee will contact donors on December 23rd or 24th to arrange delivery. The effort, sponsored by the Y M C A Men’s club, seeks to aid many needy families and asks readers to send names of families in need with the coupon.

Absence of Senator Robinson delays election of officers until his return, expected Thursday. Pat Harrison asks if the plan favors insurgents to win GOP votes.
In Hong Kong on December 12 General Li Fu-Klum dubbed King of Honan Island led a counter attack against advancing communists who seized Canton. Loyal troops crossed the Pearl River to retake police headquarters as fighting continued midafternoon.
Washington December 12 House Democrats pushed a tax bill amendment for a graduated tax on small corporations with a 13 to 132 vote. Representative Garner of Texas introduced the measure as the opening bid to boost reductions. The plan taxes corporation incomes below 15000 at 5 percent to 7000, 7 percent to 12000, and 9 percent to 15900.
William Gamble, 67, lifelong resident of Columbus Junction, died in a Cedar Rapids hospital from paralysis. Funeral services expected to be held tomorrow. The article notes the first electric fans were made in 1944 and rented for $15 a season plus current.
Fifteen persons will be summoned before U S Commissioner A C G Bush in Davenport after three liquor raids in Iowa City over the weekend. Warrants for ten officers and Elks Club members were expected following a raid on the club rooms where six gallons of liquor were seized. College Inn arrests included three people released on bonds of 1 0 each, two others former University of Iowa students were released without bond.

Delbert Badham arrives this morning from Chicago for a several weeks visit with his mother Mrs Clark and friends. He is traveling for a shift concern in Omaha Nebraska.
Reverend A M Malcolm arrived back at his Albia Town residence today following a weekend of communion services at the Associate Presbyterian church.
In Pontiac Michigan the Oakland circuit court opened a $6,000,000 breach of faith lawsuit filed by Henry M Leland against Henry Ford. Leland seeks to compel reimbursement to Lincoln Motor Company stockholders who suffered losses after Ford and Leland bought the firm in 1921. Circuit Judge Frank Covert ordered a more specific bill of complaint detailing Ford refunds.
Secretary Harry Kreider said a board meeting will be held Tuesday to push the budget drive for the Washington Y M C A. About $5,000 has been pledged, $2,500 remains. First day was the strongest in the association’s history, but subsequent efforts waned. Many pledge cards still out and boys' memberships undercounted. Optimistic outlook if campaign work continues despite holiday pressure.
The League of Nations council adjourned in Geneva until March after a seven year oil Lithuania dispute over Vilna. The council also ended the Poland Lithuania war state and restored normal communications while transferring Vilna's status to political settlement.
Former Illinois Governor Frank C. Lowden declines to disclose campaign plans while not opposing friends’ efforts. He says his nomination status will stay unchanged and urges an equalization fee to aid farmers marketing crops. He criticizes tariff cuts as not aiding farm relief and opposes direct government subsidies to prohibition laws.
Fostoria Ohio will host Buzz Hogan and his Osage Iowa basketball squad on Monday December 26 in the Washington high school gym. The lineups will include the Tucker brothers in Washington’s opener against Wayland, with extra help from coach Hod Rice as the season begins.
Governor Henry S Johnston invoked troops and a court injunction to block an insurgent legislative session in Oklahoma City. National guard units dispersed about five lawmakers attempting to convene, while an injunction barred impeachment charges against state officials. Insurgents met at a hotel and vowed to press actions despite force and legal orders.
The 120 acre Roy Maple farm in Cedar Township sold last week for 250 per acre in a cash deal to Cy Huber of Washington. Frank Wickham, former owner, bought a 200 acre farm near Mt. Pleasant and will move there with his family. Huber now holds 480 acres in Washington County.
Mrs. B. Reese of Washington Pennsylvania departed from there this morning visiting host Mrs. E. N. Wright and will travel to Dallas City Iowa and then Chicago en route to her Pennsylvania home.
Mr and Mrs Lloyd Dickerson of Richland announce the birth of a boy and a girl on Saturday December 10. Mrs Dickerson is formerly Lavonia Dodder of this city.
