Mrs Etla Curtis Dies at 84 in Columbus Junction
Mrs Etla Curtis, 84, died at her home on Yuth Hill this morning. The body lies at Stacy Funeral Home awaiting arrangements. Born March 24, 1874 in Letts she was daughter of Anson and Elizabeth Kelly. She taught at Columbus Junction school and worked in the telephone office. Surviving are two sisters Essie Kelly and Edna Gentzler both of Columbus Junction and step daughter Florence Curtis of Terre Haute Ind. She belonged to P E O Eastern Star United Presbyterian Church.

Intercontinental Snark flight launches from Cape Canaveral
An airbreathing Snark embarked on a roughly 3,000 mile test over the Atlantic from Cape Canaveral. The missile shed its boosters five seconds after liftoff and continued under jet power for about 30 seconds before vanishing in clouds. The Snark has demonstrated flight to 6,300 miles in prior tests, though production may be cut. The ICBM is expected to replace the Snark in time.

Ex Soldier Admits Patterson Slaying
Former Haleyville resident Calvin Pruitt confessed to the 1954 killing of Alabama Attorney General Albert Patterson in Phenix City. He gave a three page handwritten statement to a Richmond prison chaplain and was questioned in Alabama late November. Governor Folsom said there is a degree of truthfulness to the confession and said to investigate via Patterson’s son.
