Profits But Not Prices Could Fund Wages Says CIO
The CIO released an independent analysis by Robert R. Nathan arguing 1946 corporate profits of 25.9 billion dollars justify immediate 25 percent wage increases with no price rises. Nathan warns without wage gains or lower prices a collapse risks, but says profits may cover large raises across steel, auto, electrical and rubber sectors. He says full employment shows profits before taxes near war peaks and after taxes around 15 billion, unprecedented in U.S. history.

Fort Bliss Texas began a short furlough then sent Waggoner to Japan where he volunteered for paratroopers and completed five jumps. He qualified at the 11th Airborne Training Center in Sendai on 16 September 1946. He is the son of Mr and Mrs W F Waggoner R. RK. 8, and attended Washington high school graduating in a vocational course in 1945. When asked about Japan he said he liked it but preferred the United States.
