The Town Nine high school association opens its sixteenth season with a boys declamatory contest at Burlington. Washington is represented by Milan Thompson William Stewart and Gilbert Dickinson. Final contest at Burlington High School auditorium at 7 30 this evening. The association includes Burlington Clinton Davenport Fairfield Grinnell Iowa City Muscatine Ottumwa and Washington. Washington joined this year after Oskaloosa withdrew. Calendar lists events through April including district debates and extemporaneous speaking in Grinnell.
William H Grupe, 72, secretary treasurer and general manager of the Lagomarcino Grupe wholesale fruit company, died after being struck by a car driven by C G Clark in Burlington Iowa. Funeral services will be held Sunday. Grupe had been with the company for 53 years, a major Midwestern fruit distributor with branches in Fort Madison Cedar Rapids Muscatine Ottumwa and Keokuk.

The veteran Army officer served in several campaigns including World War I and II and was known for his leadership at training centers and his role in veterans' affairs. He is survived by a sister and two nieces.
