The music department invites the public to a Christmas Concert on Monday December 16 at 7 30 p m in the Washington Junior High gym. The 7th and 8th grade choruses perform with the 8th grade chorus, and Band B and Band A perform under Gary McCurdy. Admission is free.
Brighton Elementary School hosts a 7 30 pm Christmas program in the school gym featuring the sixth grade chamber band and elementary jazz band directed by Fred Stark. Iretta's A Christmas Wish will be presented under Berdina Bagby and Ruth Shields. The event is open to the public with no admission charge.
Clinton County Sheriff said a 28-year-old masseur from Davenport, John Benson, was held in connection with a Delmar Savings Bank robbery. The gunman fled with about $10,000. Benson was nabbed near Charlotte by state trooper Dan Folkers after a red Volkswagen tip.
Chicago mayor Richard J. Daley 72 hopes to win a historic sixth term aided by faith voters and party support. He spoke emotionally Monday to ward committeemen and top Democratic leaders after a mild stroke and subsequent surgery.
Washington County 4 H and FFA will weigh tag and enroll market beeves at five sites on Saturday December 14. Members must weigh in and can enroll 1 to 3 head and pay 40 cents per ear tag. Enrollment requires 4H 106 LS form and planning for a market heifer class at the fair.
Traffic lights at the East Washington and South Second intersection will flash red in all directions for about a week starting today. Workmen will modify the controller for fire lane use and set up fire station control to clear lanes for fire trucks at City Hall and YMCA corners.

About three quarters of the nations 120000 soft coal miners resumed work after the United Mine Workers and the Association of Bituminous Contractors announced a tentative contract in Wa shington. The union must approve before a rank and file vote may take four to five days. Pickets by construction workers idled thousands more miners in Illinois Pennsylvania West Virginia and Ohio amid court actions and board charges.
The Senate voted to confirm Nelson A. Rockefeller as the 41st vice president despite some opposition. Rockefeller would assume the No 2 post after House approval likely next week as the nation remains without a vice president since Gerald Ford became president on August 9.
Carolyn Koesters, 29, a Zenith Radio worker and mother of five, collected 1712.50 in loose currency from a bank vault during a five minute promotional stunt for the Toy National Bank grand opening. She carried two 40 pound coin bags at once and earned the nickname the superwoman among coworkers.
The Washington Plan and zoning Commission approved Monday night the rezoning of a five acre tract on the west side to permit apartment buildings. Unanimous after a public hearing the P and Z recommendation goes to the City Council. No opposition was filed by Keith Vetter of Washington to change land from R-2 to R-3.
Washington witnesses tell Interior Secretary Morton that energy policy must serve consumers, with conservation favored but concerns about how poor families can cut energy use without losing heat, cooking, or transportation. State that energy use should not grow at 4 or 5 percent annually and warn of unequal impacts.

In Paris the nine European Common Market nations warn of a worldwide recession worse than inflation and urge the United States to lead with monetary expansion despite inflation fears. French President Giscard d Estaing plans to press President Ford in Martinique to ease anti inflation measures. Dutch premier Den Uyl says expansion is the order of the hour to counter recession.
