Specialized handkerchief selections divided by price include 2c and 3c special handkerchiefs from 40 dozen up to 20c each Sc choices. 10c and 12c lines feature fine embroidered plain hem-stitched and linen initial handkerchiefs with some retailing at 30c. At 20c and 25c the best handkerchiefs ever sold are offered, very finely embroidered in new styles, previously unseen under 50c.
The Iowa Supreme Court upheld the district court ruling in State of Iowa v Albert McKinstry, concurring with nine months in jail and a $100 fine. McKinstry, found guilty of stealing harness, had been tried before Judge Dewey amid a heated case as he prepared to depart for Kansas.
In Olney and Cleveland style reportage, a local rifle challenge between Glasgow, McCutcheon, Kellogg, Brookhart, Page, Rodman, Hollingsworth, and Hebner unfolds along the G R L P right of way near Crooked Creek. Waterloo Daily Courier praises the production saved from the sea, calling it a thorough English show with a strong cast and grand scenery. It notes notable bridge, prison, and harvest field scenes and mentions 8:15 performances at The Graham with seats 25 35 and 50 cents. The B and N W Railway offers excursions. it’s the last theater for over thirty days.
The convention meets at Ainsworth today and tomorrow with a busy afternoon program led by Col. D. J. Palmer and J. P. Davis, plus a children's meeting. This evening features a Long Service and talks on Sabbath School as a Means of Personal Work. Tomorrow includes business sessions, delegate reports, and various lesson presentations led by Will Runyon, Rev. Gray, Rev. Coates, and Mrs. Ink, concluding with a closing address by Rev. Yesterday at their home on North Marion street Mrs R P Lewis and daughters Mike and Helen welcomed about eighty friends. Guests brought their work and enjoyed a pleasant afternoon with elegant refreshments and beautiful decorations.
A plain drunk appeared in Justice Rogers' court this morning and pled guilty, receiving a ten dollar fine with trimming. Another defendant later faced the same fine but, unable to pay, was sentenced to jail. The justice noted this was the third prior appearance and said he had previously shown leniency.
Readers are told Hall's Catarrh Cure cures catarrh at all stages, a constitutional disease treated internally to affect blood and mucous surfaces. The ad claims $100 reward for any uncured case and invites testimonials, with endorsements of Hal's Family Pills.
J F Lever of Fremont Nebraska writes to J A Crail manager of Jackson Pipe Organ Factory asking stockholders to donate land and bonuses to lure a big woolen mill to Washington. He cites Nebraska backward steps and freight costs and notes the mill sells to leading dry goods houses.
The Journal notes confusion over the Kilgore matter, clarifying it is a civil action brought by the County Board rather than a state criminal case. It also indicates most readers favor Mrs Silgore and expect the case to be dropped.
Ten boarders occupy the county hostiery with six awaiting grand jury action on distinct crimes, while others face pending developments in the case.
Prof Whitney sits up some while Hugh Teeter makes expected progress. Mike Conlan remains ill, Miss Cora Bell shows improvement, and Enoch Winter is reported to be much improved.
Public notice seeks a long term loan of five thousand to ten thousand dollars at five percent interest. Palmer & Co invites contact from lenders willing to provide the funds under terms described.
J S Nichols remains at his Row Nichols grocery stand while Mercer & Chilcote decorates store windows for the holidays. Visitors arrive from Ainsworth Wayland Merrimac Oskaloosa and Des Moines as Wickmouse plans new work. A group of hobos are moved along by officers after being dropped at the depot. Local merchants close late for the night and an door window is secured after officers wake a merchant at 2 a.m.
